B.A.R.K. Kennels (You MUST Call First)
Please call Linda if you can help even for 1-2 hours a week, or maybe alternate with someone else for every other week. [masked].
Fridays: Two die hard, dedicated committed people clean both the front building, back building and Intake on Fridays. There were more volunteers, but as we all know things change. The Friday crew just hope others might just decide to show up. But they need to know who they can count on so they too can plan how long they will need to be there.
I (Tam) had to put a time on the event because thats how Meetup works, Call Linda about hours they ARE flexible. You MUST not just show up on the farm, you MUST call to let them know you are coming.
Do not Mapquest this location - use Google maps or the directions below. The map on this Meetup page is correct. It is about 35 minutes from downtown Richmond.
From 295 take Route 33 West (Staples Mill Rd.) toward Montpelier exit. You’ll pass the Tyson Chicken plant and eventually come to a light at the intersection of 623. You’ll pass an Exxon station, Stanley’s store and JoPa pools. Continue for .8 mile and turn right on Farrington Road. Go to the end (stop sign at Greenwood Church Road) and turn right. Just around the curve the driveway will be on the left - it is a bridge over a creek. Drive up past the house and park where other cars will be. Walk up the gravel drive away from the house to the barns. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE CONTACT THE DOGS AT THE HOUSE WITHIN THE FENCED AREA. They are Bob’s (the owner's) dogs - some are in training and others will not be adopted out.
If you love dogs, then BARK needs you! BARK is a volunteer run organization that was formed for the express purpose of finding homes for unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals.
Our tasks will mainly revolve around BARK's Quality of Life program. We'll help clean out the kennels, walk the dogs and take care of anything else that's needed at the Ashland farm. Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and some water. You can view a brief video that will give you an overview of the volunteer activities here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-EqJtBuX4U .
If you have not volunteered with BARK before, please complete download the volunteer application/waiver online at http://www.barkva.org/NewsLetters/ApplicationWaiver.pdf or fill out the form when you arrive. We'll be working indoors and outdoors, so please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather that you don't mind getting dirty.
