note: since so many have signed up for this event, please make sure to cancel if you won't be coming. i do need to give Bartlett's a reservation number for lunch too.

if you are skipping the hike, and just coming go lunch,, i would arrive at Bartlett's about 2:00 PM. it might be a good idea to call me at[masked] around 1:00 PM to check on that. sometimes cell phone service on the beach is sketchy--if you can't reach me, call Bartlett's and mention my name.

dear friends--

we invite you to an eclectic day of hiking, swimming, food, games, and the good fellowship of friendly, interesting folks.

be sure to check the weather just before the hike so you can be prepared with whatever gear is necessary http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Beverly+Shores+IN+46301 . bring at least a quart of water (two is better), and a snack you can eat on our rest stop. bring sunscreen, appropriate footwear, and a hat with a brim. you might need insect repellant on the inland parts of the trail depending on your sensitivity.

we will walk right out our front door on some pleasant Beverly Shores roads down to the lake. we will walk on the sand a bit over a mile, and stop on the beach for a swim break and a snack. then we will return thru the wetland to the Calumet trail. there could be some standing water on the Calumet trail, so hiking sandals are probably the best footwear, gym shoes might be a problem.

we will then walk to a late lunch at Bartlett’s Gourmet Grill http://www.eatatbartletts.com/ . if you don't take the hike, you could also just join us to eat. i am estimating we will arrive at Bartlett's between 2:30-3:30. call me around 1 PM if you aren't hiking but want to join us for the meal.

after that, we will return to my house via the Great Marsh trail, and play some games.

i will provide some beverages and chips myself, but if you plan to come for the games, please bring some wine, soft drinks, snacks, or desserts. you can leave them at my house before the hike.

we are long on paper plates, plasticware, etc, from past contributions, and i plan to use down my inventory, so don't bring any of those items, please.

I will pass a hat for a small contribution to cover the costs of using the meetup website.

If you’re coming on the train or otherwise can’t bring anything, don’t worry about it, we’ll be ok--just add a bit extra when i pass the hat around.

we can play games for a couple hours, then go our merry ways and still have some of Sunday evening to reboot for the coming week.

hope to see you there,

Rick

The Dunes are to the Midwest what the Grand Canyon is to Arizona and the Yosemite is to California. They constitute a signature of time and eternity.
