Anderson Alley Artists "Shoot FOR Edit"

Many thanks to Joyce Pearson for putting us onto this one. We've increased our cap to thirty with an automatic waiting list, so if you RSVP to attend, please remember to remove your names early if you learn that you can't make it.

To those planning to attend: Everyone's free to shoot as they wish of course, but note that our review of uploaded images the following Wednesday night will be with an eye to NEW PHOTOGRAPHY or PHOTO-EDITING SKILLS that are demonstrated by each uploaded picture. We're a learning group after all, and this is event is a great opportunity to try and practice some new skills. Tripods and flash are both allowed, so HDR, off-camera flash, compressing DOF's, shooting for conversion to B&W, low-ISO "Tack" sharp shots, photo-compositing -- or just getting to know some feature of your camera that's new to you -- are all fair game.

This event falls on one of Anderson Alley's (www.andersonalleyartists.com) monthly "Second Saturday" events, which should increase the number of artisans who will be in to open their studios. This shoot will be different than others we've held (eg Artisans) in that we don't have one decision-maker who can speak for all of what we'll be photographing. Each of us will need to be careful that we have the permission of each artisan before photographing either them or their work. Joyce and I on our walkthrough found everyone friendly and open to our being there for the most part, but a few were concerned that their works might be used apart from RPEG without their permission. Also there was some concern that if we had too many at one time in their showrooms, it might discourage paying customers from entering.

The venue fills floors 2, 3, and 4 of a four-story building, and there are no elevators for carrying visitors. That means that this might not be a good event for those with walking limitations. The entrance door is also challenging. It's near the BACK (i.e. EAST end) of the building and facing north. It doesn't look like an entrance door, and the door is poorly marked. I'll plan to be at that entrance at about our starting time to help with the door issue, and also to review some of the rules with everyone that we've agreed to follow.

The timing is perfect for a follow-up editing session during our regular monthly meeting the following Wednesday night, so be sure to RSVP there if you're planning to upload your pictures for the group to review then.

GREAT! I enjoyed it very much. Very friendly artists, great place to photograph, lots of time available, and it was not at all crowded which gave me time to relax and go at my snail's pace.

It was fun to meet the artists and I learned a lot. I've been editing away, all the while noting what mistakes I've made. Too late to turn back now though! I'm making my first 'photo quilt'. I thought it would be easier than the sewing version. Now I'm not so sure.

It's a cliffhanger. The plow has arrived at my driveway yet. 10:00 a.m. Saturday! If we get plowed out, I'll be there! Otherwise, my spot will be open.

Would love to be added to the waiting list. One of my teachers was Richard Margolis who, I believe still has a studio here.

I've had work shown at the Shoe Factory Gallery in the Anderson Building for the past year. Beth Brown is the owner.

I hoping to be well enough to attend this event. If the event fills and you need my space let me know, if it looks like I am not going to be able to go I will give up my spot. I will cancel if find out I cannot attend.
