Homework Workshop

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • I'd like to see a workshop that is 2-4 hours long in which we are assigned some simple-ish program (or a few) to create to force us to learn an aspect of python. Things I'm interested in are:
    network interaction
    log file iteration and manipulation
learning about tips and tricks for a beginner
    managing python in github/svn
interacting with databases in good and bad ways
    parsing google searches programatically

These are just my agenda, i'd love to see what others want to learn.

This sounds like the perfect thing to have a number of speakers cover a few different topics.

I would be game for covering Python in GitHub with Git Basic, shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

I am very interested in this type of workshop. I got my start with Python by converting Perl programs that dealt with parsing and formatting flat files and would love to get some work with interacting with databases.

Sounds good to me as I am new to python. Tried to attend last meeting (at RIT) but could not find it. Should have thought to ask specifically where the meeting was. Will definitely be at this one. Especially interested with how well python interacts with databases. Sounds great!

We should have some idea of the topic to make sure it isn't too esoteric.

Nice idea. How about a workshop on git and the other version control systems? It's peripheral, but some of us with big projects need to learn it. (My project is not in git, and it's starting to get frustrating.)
