The group was created for this past winter, but we've had so much fun that we've decided to extend it until next winter's hygge kicks in.

Do you tend to get stuck inside, a bit lonely, in Rochester's winters? We do, too. We're creating a women's group focused around hygge (pronounced HUE-gah . . . sort of), the Danish concept of embracing the winter to create environments and gatherings that develop coziness and emotional intimacy. See more about hygge here: The goal is to have 15-20 women who each commit to attending at least one of the ~4 events a month (ideally we'll have two at people's homes and two at other venues) so that each event will be likely to have 4+ people in attendance. Some events will be just for members, and some will be with children and/or significant others welcome. Some gatherings will be indoors, and some will be out. Most will be inexpensive. In the process of these gatherings, we hope to create close friendships that help us enjoy Rochester's wintertime. The women who are founding members are each an acquaintance of at least one other one. We are all in our 30s and 40s, and we all have at least one child. Some of us work part-time and some work full-time. We welcome any other women--childfree, SAHM, working moms, older women, younger women-- to join us and develop friendships if the group's purpose resonates with you. Our initial event will be a low-key candlelit dinner (most food allergies are easily accommodated) with each member providing a white or off-white pillar candle to be used for warm light in our at-home gatherings. If the idea of this interests you, we hope you'll meet with us at the dinner or another meeting soon after.
