Mt. Woodson (Was McCain Valley)

  • Mount Woodson

Looks like temperatures will be a little too chilly for McCain Valley. Mount Woodson looks to be a good place to go this weekend. Let's meetup where the dirt trail meets the fire road around 8:30. That will give the sun some time to warm up the rock. :)

Haven't been to McCain Valley. Weather Provided, let's head out there. We'll do Lowenbrau Pinnacle. We can meet up somewhere and carpool in. That way no one gets lost. We can meet in Alpine at the Town Center at 1379 Tavern Rd, Alpine, CA around 7:30am. Then we will car pool in.

If you sign up and are not going please take your name off the list as there is a limited number of people going.

Directions to McCain Valley:
Interstate 8 to 94/Campo Exit- turn right (south) to Old Hwy 80 (left) - drive east almost 2 miles, left on McCain Valley Road- onto dirt road at McCain Valley Recreation Area sign... Lark Canyon is 2.7 miles in, Pinnacle Circuit is 5.3 miles in.

Directions to Lowenbrau Pinnacle:
From the camp grounds drive in a few more miles and you'll be able to make a left toward the Pinnacle. The turn off dead ends and puts you about a mile or so away from LP. From the parking area veer to the right as you make your way. You'll see a good trail that leads you to your destination.

Hi all, I'm keen to check out Woodson tomorrow. I can bring an extra rope/cams/slings for the group if needed?

    Thanks for organizing, Peter!

I'd like to come - I have my gear, but I'm climbing in Joshua Tree on friday so I'm afraid of being too tired ... can I answer friday night or would it be too late?

Yeah, the temperature is looking to be a bit chilly. How about we change this to Mt. Woodson? I am not big on Mission Gorge, and don't want to do multi-pitch this weekend. I'll open it up to more people too.

I've been out of the climbing scene for a few years. I'd like to get back into it. What difficulty level climbs is this group aiming for?

There are routes from 5.7 on up. So, just about anyone can come.
