New Meetup: Elevenmile Bday Bash

From: Bill

Announcing a new Meetup for Rock Climbers of Colorado Springs!

What: Elevenmile Bday Bash

When: Tuesday, August 10,[masked]:00 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Join us in celebrating Kimberley?s birthday! We?ll head back to the Splatte, do a little camping and socializing, and get in two great days of climbing without the crowds! And be sure to bring a towel; if the weather is nice we just might take a dip in the river after climbing. Elevenmile is home to many beautiful granite domes that offer a multitude of easy to moderate multi-pitch routes. It also has plenty of hard sport climbs and tough multi-pitch routes for the advanced climbers. This is not an area that lends well to moderate top-roping so I would like to see several of our lead climbers sign up for this so that those who do not lead will be able to climb in a traditional lead/follow style. With routes ranging from 2 to 4 pitches and plenty to choose from, we should all be able to knock out several long climbs over the course of two days.

Please check the message board for a list of basic supplies necessary for the trip (we all forget something, once in a while).

We will meet at the Safeway at 3275 W. Colorado Ave. at 8:00 am. Look for my burgundy Dodge Stealth R/T near the road, away from the Safeway. I?ve been told this is a good place to leave vehicles overnight.

From the Safeway we will head west on Colorado Ave and turn left on Ridge Rd and then right on US Hwy 24. Follow Hwy 24 to the town of Lake George. Turn left at Park County Rd 96. After one mile, veer right at the intersection with County Rd 61 to stay on the 96 and head into the canyon. We will look for campsites before heading to the crags. There is a $5 fee to enter the park and I think $12 for one campsite which holds 2 vehicles and 8 people.
