Printer and Printing Workshop

Conducted by Bob Kovach

Join us on January 25 for a workshop demonstrating how to get your photographic masterpieces into print. We will meet at 9:30 am in the Piovano Room at the Rockbridge Regional Library.

One of the most rewarding aspects of photography is producing great prints from your photo printer. However, achieving good prints can sometimes be the most frustrating part of digital photography. This workshop will show you how to remove the frustration with printing.

Covered in this workshop will be:
Selecting a photo printer.
Finding low cost ink and photo paper.
Maintaining your photo printer.
Achieving results that closely match your monitor the first time, every time.

Bob will show you that an expensive photo printer is not necessary to achieve good results. A budget inkjet printer may be very adequate for photo printing.

Bring an USB flash drive with several of your favorite photos that you would like to print. On hand will be a supply of glossy, semi-glossy and matte papers (8.5” x 11”). Bob will assist you in selecting photo paper and creating good prints. At the workshop for your use will be a variety of Canon and Epson printers, ranging from budget to advanced photo printers.

This workshop is free to Rockbridge Camera Club members. The fee for non-members is $25.

Bob Kovach has many years of experience with printers and photo printing. Currently he is running seven inkjet photo printers (with three more in reserve), ranging from budget to several large professional printers.

Bob did a terrific job with this workshop - I learned a number of things I didn't know and some tricks about maintaining my printer. It was well worth attending and I would recommend it highly. Thanks, Bob, for putting this together and sharing your knowledge.

Here's an update on the Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer deal announced at the workshop today: I ordered one from Adorama and their selling price of $388 (already $10 less than the $398 we heard in class) was reduced an additional $48 to $340! The paper was still included, the shipping was free, and their was no sales tax - - so the whole deal cost $340. Then when you subtract to mail-in rebate of $300, I just purchased a real nice printer for 40 bucks! Right on, brother!

This was so very well presented. I had no idea that there was so much involved in printing. A mystery that had stumped me about printing in B&W was solved. Now that I have a new Pixma Pro 100 (thanks to a tip Bob gave us), I also know how to maintain the monster!
    Thanks Bob!

Seven of us attended the March 22 edition of the printer workshop and it was extremely useful. There were certainly technical elements in Bob's presentation that were challenging (speaking only for myself) but we all discovered that there's more to printing a photo than just hitting the "PRINT" button - - especially if you want to get the most out of your printer and to do your picture credit. Thanks Bob!

Could do either Feb or Mar but think we'd prefer Feb if that's a possibility.

Tom and I won't be able to come after all - something else has come up. We're sorry to miss this one and hope it might be scheduled again.

Dorothy, Thanks for the regrets. No problem, as I am seriously considering having two sessions with fewer attendees, so that everyone can do some printing. Stay tuned.

I SO need this clinic but will be out of town. I am thrilled however that you will offer it again!
    Thank you in advance.

    January 15, 2014

    • Bob K.

Martha, send me an email indicating the date you prefer (Feb 15 or March 22). If both dates are OK, let me know (gives us scheduling flexibility).

To everyone that has signed up for this workshop. The response has been great - 18 signups so far. Unfortunately, with this many participants, everyone will not be able to do some printing. Ideally I would like 8 to 10 persons in the workshop. Therefore, I have arranged for three dates to conduct the workshop, Jan 25 (original date), Feb 15 and March 22. Please let me know what date works best for you. Also if several dates are fine, let me know that as well to provide me some flexibility in scheduling. To avoid clogging up the Meetup site (and to make sure I don't miss your response, please reply via my email [masked]. Thanks for your response.

I'm good with any of the dates.

So sorry to have to miss this one due to a scheduling conflict. Will be teaching Power Processing using Photoshop and Lightroom with Kirk Carter that day. I do hope you do this one again, very interested!

    December 11, 2013

    • Bob K.

No problem Curt. We plan to have a second session in either February or March.
