Come and cavort with other Digital Project Managers in our monthly meetup.
One of the hardest things about developing digital applications is knowing what your users are actually going to do. Oftentimes digital team design reviews become conversations about how users would “never do this or that”. But the truth is that most all of those statements should really be preempted by, “I think” or “I feel” I expect since the people who are designing the solution are often the worst judge of the actual audience.
Enter usability testing where structured tests and smart targeted audience selection can deliver real users giving you real feedback. Usability tests not only help digital teams validate approaches but often provide new insights as real users provide feedback that none your expert digital team members would ever have provided.
Of course, the challenge is figuring out the best time to incorporate tests and get meaningful feedback to help change the course of the design. Deadlines/budgets are often pressed and it seems like an impossibility to fit them in.
At our next meeting, we will talk to about how usability can be used on digital projects and how, specifically online usability tests can help take more of the subjectivity out of your digital projects. Our guide will be Steve Cohn, Founder and CEO of Validately (validately.com), an online user testing service whose customers include Google, Salesforce, Allstate, Microsoft, Twillio and many other great technology, financial services and agencies.
Validately is Steven’s third start-up. He has successfully started and sold two other companies. He was also an executive at two other companies that went from $0 to over $100 million in revenue in under 3 years. So he has been around fast growing products his entire career. His life motto is “I try hard to be a great father, husband and entrepreneur.” On the weekends, he is usually coaching his sons’ sports teams.
Steven is going to discuss the two different type of usability studies - Real Life Usability and UI Usability. He will explain which techniques are best for each and share some best practices.
We'd like to thank our sponsors for helping to make our meetups happen:
