Alhambra Cafe and Coffee House

Alhambra Café and Coffee House
1622 W. Morse Avenue
Chicago, IL. 60626

Alhambra Café Coffee House was established in 2006 and created as a place of genuine hospitality to promote and preserve civility. We serve guests with a blend of Eastern sensibilities and European flair. The foundation for Alhambra Café is independent thought, artistic expression and creativity, and an all-encompassing appreciation for the diversity and beauty of nature, towards maintaining a soulful existence. We desire to provide a casually sophisticated establishment for others to pursue the same joie de vivre.

We believe that our café fare—above-average drinks and desserts—are best and fully appreciated with a level of service and ambiance. It is actually a simple, traditional idea that helps folk stay grounded in a modern life. Today's world is more and more uprooted, where more and more time is spent disconnected while being technologically connected and overloaded. Our café is an organic place to stay grounded…rooted ...attached to the world ...to Mother Earth.

We never, never, serve in paper or plastic or concentrate on 'to go'. We believe quality is debatable when product is served in paper or plastic or foam, and our natural world simply cannot bear more needless waste.

A noticeable lack of laptop computers is part of the organic nature of the café and contributes to a refined atmosphere.

Alhambra Café cannot be compared to 'coffee shops'. We serve an extensive menu of original, distinctive coffees using European standards, with over forty choices in coffee drinks. Our coffee is for the coffee affectionado, a person who enjoys real espresso coffee for the sake of coffee flavor, rather than large volumes of more-caffeinated American drip coffee for the sake of caffeine. Therefore, we do not cater to 'just a coffee' masses.

In addition, plenty of noncoffee hot and cold drinks are offered, including artisan teas, hot cocoas, chai lattes, and seasonal items like, apple cider. There are many, many fine refreshments to pair with quality pastries and desserts. If you prefer a glass of wine with a sweet treat, be our guest to bring your own bottle of wine.

The quality dessert list is in constant rotation; choices range from tiramisu, carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake, tarts, tortes, cheesecake to award-winning croissants, for examples.

Alhambra Café also creates a vast variety of smoothies and ice cream shakes from real ingredients, not mixes, for all tastes and diets.

In essence, we provide a form of attainable luxury, even more so in difficult economic times. A gourmet coffee with a delectable dessert, or a nutritious smoothie, costs less than a couple of (quality) beers, and is more healthy than fried/fast food. With all natural, wholesome ingredients, who can say a dessert is not a meal?!

Alhambra Café serves baked goods and desserts made locally in Rogers Park and our near neighbor, Evanston; the coffee is from the original, independent Chicago coffee roaster and tea merchant; each business is long-established and reputable.
