Do you have a novel chapter, a short story, a poem, a memoir section or other writing you'd like a feedback on?
Join us to get new, original feedback that gets the writing juices flowing.
Before every meeting 3 people will submit a short story, section of a novel or other work to be reviewed (up to 10-12 double spaced pages, max. 3000 words). Come prepared to give written and verbal feedback on others' work as well as receive feedback on your own. Open to all, but limited to 3 each session on a first come first serve basis.
Announce that you want to submit in the comments to this meetup. We share our work in a closed rooster by email so if you are new, please private message me your email. I'll include you in the rooster.
Please RSVP and be prepared to submit your work about a week before we meet to give everyone a chance to read. RSVPs will close a few days before the event.
How to submit:
Announce that you want to submit in the comment to the meetup. We share our work by email so if you are new, please private message me your email. I'll include you in the rooster.
Double-space your manuscript, preferably Times New Roman, 12 font. Remember to put your name, your email and the name of your manuscript on every page. Number the pages. Max. submission is 10 pages.
How to give feedback:
1) Be gentle but honest. Remember it might be intimidating for a writer to open their work for others. Use "sandwich" technique: a commenter begins by saying something he/she likes about the piece, then goes on to point out what can be improved, and finishes up with another positive comment—sandwiching the improvement suggestion between two positives.
2) Bring printed version with your comments or make sure the author gets a digital version of your feedback.
3) Keep your verbal feedback reasonably short and focus on the main topics: characters, plot or plot holes, themes, voice, etc. Avoid commenting grammar, commas and misspellings (they will be in your written feedback anyway).
That's about it! Let's help each other become better writers!
IMPORTANT: we have a strict no no-shows policy! If you did not show up 2 times, I'll have to kick you out of the group! Often there is a waiting list to participate in the meetup, and you are stealing away a place for someone who wants to be there. If you can't come, change your RSVP in advance and give others your empty chair!
