Wednesday training ride
Do you want to improve on hills but need more practice? Here's a friendly group ride with lots of hill practice, open to all levels of riders. Helvetia is a great place to practice on hills because there is almost no traffic. Pace depends on who shows up. In recent weeks, some of our regular riders who have gotten faster as the weather has improved. But if you're a slow climber, don't let that stop you. You have to start somewhere! You may be at the back of the pack, but we'll gladly wait at the top and you'll improve if you keep coming. The standard route has "bailout points" so you can go partway and return to the start if you want. Fast climbers are welcome to speed ahead and finish the route on your own; just let the ride leader know. This will be interval type training. We can modify the routes in future weeks and build up to a Logie trail climb. On any given week depending on riders we can change the route to fit. All this going up means a certain amount of coming down, so we'll working on descending too! Interested in cycling, but not sure where to start? Or are you tired of going on rides by yourself? Are you intimidated by the Lance Armstrong wannabes that are smoking past you with those tight black bottom spandex and thick calf muscles? Well have we got the group for you! If you are new to cycling or if you are a veteran of cycling we invite you to gather for weekend ride/course planning, gear talk, training tips, social outings, etc.!

Our purpose is to gear up, get on, get out, and get going, chase the wind and have fun! Who cares if the guys are faster than us, we just like to see their cool bike tights as they race by! Isn't that why we're here??

With that said, here are some basics: RSVP so the Ride Leaders know that you are coming and CANCEL if you change your mind. Show up at least 15 minutes before the ride start time, if the group is ready to depart on time they will do just that. Have a spare tube and pump to take with you on the ride even if you don't know how to use them.

Finally, fully read the ride descriptions! Call or email the Ride Leader the day before the ride if you need any help with equipment or questions about the route.
