It's a Calorie Burner, Baby! (56 miles + 4K feet)

This is a rigorous route of miles and climbs (56 mi + 4K ft.) with a loop around Sauvie Island. Four climbs to be exact:

• Old Cornelius Pass up to Skyline (2 miles up!)

• Rocky Point, up from Hwy 30 (3.5 miles up and the most difficult, both for sustained climbing and for steeper grade!)

• Beck, down and up (2 miles up!)

• Skyline from Rock Creek to Springville (6 miles up!)

It will be fast-paced on the flats (19-22 mph) and slower on the climbs with regroups at hilltops. Be prepared for narrow or no shoulder and riding on Highway 30 (wide shoulder). On the plus side, we have a beautiful forecast, spectacular Oregon scenery and views, and hopefully a pile of friends. Who is in?

Route with all the gorey  details:

9:00 - Meet for coffee at Bethany Starbucks (probably a long coffee line)

9:30  - Wheels rolling - please be on time!

Lunch: pack one and we'll stop somewhere and eat on the road.

Ride leaders: Michael & Carolyn Jen[masked]

Great route, good group and no rain. What more could you ask for? Thanks Carolyn and Michael.

Glad you could join us Rob. It was a tough route I'm happy just to have finished it!

Carolyn, you're an animal! Great that you're going for the gusto!

LOL! If someone would have told me 2 years ago that I - ME! would be leading these rides I would have laughed without stopping. But this is what happens when your husband talks you into signing up for BIG rides! The California Bike Ride has 24K feet of elevation gain, 3 of the 7 days are 5K each. I'm pedaling fast to get my climbing legs ready!!

Wow, Carolyn, he didn't take out a new large insurance policy on you did he? That is one serious week of riding.

Looks like my hard ride today may be washed out or at least abreviated. If, by some miracel, it isn't, then I may not be up to this, but I'll know by this afternoon.

We did ride. It was supposed to be 50-mi with 5,000', but managed 44-miles with as much climbing as I could stand. Looks like I better rest tomorrow and do something easier. You guys have fun.

Oh, it was made a bit harder by riding in hail with heavy rain on the way down. It sure felt good when it was over - ha.
