A few (11) of us are doing the annual Crater Lake ride on August 23rd, Saturday. There is place for 7 more people in the campsites now. (See camping section below)
Since there are very limited spaces available, please be 100% committed when RSVPing. If you are not sure, please wait it out & take your chances.
I will need payment to 'secure' your space.
We ride out from Diamond Lake campsites (already booked) and 'work' our way to lake, ride around the rim - clockwise, and head back down.
This is a challenging ride that is compounded due to elevation & distance. If you have not done a long ride OR been climbing hills, you WILL find this ride challenging. (Good news: There is time for you to get ready though if you start from today, 4th June. ;-) )
Ride is a non-regroup ride and we will stop for the sights, sounds, smells, etc. This is a SOCIAL ride and not a race.
Riders usually roll back down starting @ 2.30PM to 5PM. Evening dinner is a potluck.
On Sunday, few of us ride around Diamond lake for fun & head back to our 'dreary' lives and relive the previous 2 days. :-)
Food & Water:
In one word: None. You will need to carry a backpack or something for extra water, etc. The lodge is almost 44 miles into the ride & if the weather is hot, you will run out of water on reaching the Crater Lake turn!!!
But if we get SAG support that changes everything.
Last year we had SAG support with a couple of spouses helping us out. Plus Ann's family helped.
This year we don't have any. BUT, if any of you have your spouse or family member camping & not riding, please beg/borrow/steal their time to help us. We will be in their favor. (Hit me up offline if you can.)
I have already made the campsite reservations (two sites A006 & A007). Suggested max occupancy is 16 adults between the two sites.
11 spaces have been accounted for. We have place for 7 additional adults (including non-riders) which is pushing the suggested limit.
P.S: If you can snag a campsite & invite others, all the more fun. Let me know & I'll open it up to an additional 7 more people.
And the cost is $10/for two nights (Sat & Sun) per space.

BoB Rules, Etc:
As ever, all BoB + ODOT rules apply. Meaning helmet is required even if ODOT does not recommend it. Carry spares, etc. Make sure you & your bike are in perfect working order. This ride is no fun if either has issues. ;-)
Bring a camera. Have fun. Enjoy the ride. Don't ride @ someone else's pace/speed/etc. This is YOUR ride. Make the best of it. We all get to the camp & will wait for you to eat together. :-)
