The Thursday Evening Ride

  • Foot of Highway 26 bike path

SW Park Way and SW Knollcrest Drive, Portland, OR (map)

    45.506859 -122.774567

  • Bikes, Yo!
  • Shorter days. Early darkness. Oh heck, let's go for a ride. This ride runs all year and when it gets dark, we make some adjustments and ride anyway. That means good lights front and rear, and extra caution. As the days shorten, we'll do fewer hilly side loops and stick to the basic route. That means an easier ride, so if it has looked too hard in the past, please reconsider.

We'll take the bike path along Hwy 26 up to Sylvan, do a lap or two on the Fairmount "race track", and take in the view from the top of Council Crest. There will be hills, and depending on who shows up, we may add in some more climbing. Intermediate riders, and those wanting to improve their climbing skills are welcome.

The basic route is posted below, with two laps of Fairmount. This route is very low traffic and a lot of it is bike path. However, to keep things interesting, we will probably add climbing by doing some repeats up through the cemetery, or some side loops if daylight allows.

There are no restroom facilities at the starting point.

The Basic Route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2708272. Please note, this is just the basic route. We will add loops at the beginning, and maybe the end, as well as probably do two Fairmount laps, one in each direction.

Route Stats: The basic route is 16.7 miles, 1232 feet of climbing, Expect a total of more than 20 miles and at least 2000 feet of climbing.

Pace and terrain rating. C 3-4

Type of ride: This is an intermediate level training ride. We will regroup at hilltops and major turns. If you are concerned about your ability to keep up, feel free to give it a shot, but be a good sport and be prepared to make your own way back if the pace is too much.

Weather Cancellation Policy. Only extreme weather will cancel this ride. ****************************************************

    Mandatory for all riders.

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Represent us well!

Have their ride in good working order and bring a flat kit & the right size spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out.

Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride, we will help if we can!
