• Mock Interviews

    Groundswell Offices

This month join us for a mock group--panel interview! Interviews can be tough and intimidating. Unfortunately, the only practice we often get is when seeking a job. Instead, let's create an opportunity to hone those interview skills, and even focus on areas we'd like to improve. Do you find... white boarding a challenge? have trouble answering technical questions? find situational or behavioral questions intimidating? Then this meetup is a must! Here's out it will work: Interviewees: You'll agree to provide your current resume and be interviewed publicly. You'll also let us know what level you consider your self (let's stick to junior or intermediate), and what areas you'd like to focus. Interviewers: You'll agree to interview candidates by asking questions relevant to their resume, stated skill level and interview focus. Observers: Maybe you don't want to play a role, but would like to be there and observe. Feedback Panel: You'll have interviewed and hired developers professionally in the past. Your role will be to provide candidates (and even interviewers) valuable feedback so they can be even more prepared for the real interview. We'll also have a moderator (me) to ensure the interviews don't get too uneasy. It will be live, and in front of a group--so expect a certain level of intimidation. What we won't have are hecklers, over-aggressive interviewers or gotcha questions. The goal is practicing those interview skills so we all rock them regardless of the role we're in. So clean up those dusty resumes, prepare your interview questions and mark your calendars. It's sure to be a rewarding experience. Last note: I have set a question for all attendees. Interviewees will be wide open, and only limited by time. Interviewers and Panel members will be limited in number and chosen judiciously to ensure a good experience. Hope to see you there!

This is an experimental concept. We'll start this meeting off with everyone announcing what their going to study for the next hour. We'll throw it up on a whiteboard. Next, we'll go into "Power Hour" mode. We'll take the room to silence and grind out an hour on our idea/projects. This is like a more-structured version of our "Open Hacks" meetup. Finally, after the "Power Hour", everybody will present on what they got accomplished!
