Friday May 16th: 7-10PM: The Third Friday CoffeeHouse: Re-Connecting to the Earth featuring singer Jun Bustamamte Bob Linde will begin the evening with an herb walk and lecture about Edible and Medicinal Plants $10. entrance fee/ delicious dinner of entrée, salad, and fresh fruit for $8 Conscious-indie-folk, multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and vocalist, imbues hints of hip hop, experimental electro, jazz, world music and rock into her sound. Her resonant jazz-rich vocals and unique outlook on various sociopolitical topics set an aesthetic yet empowering tone to the listener’s ear. Born in Hachioji, Japan, raised partly in Caracas, Venezuela and St. Petersburg, FL, allowed for exposure to a wide variety of music genres at a very early age. Over the years, Jun has worked hard on translating these diverse genres into her own unique style of music. Jun has performed at various Festivals, Venues, and House Concerts in the U.S. and Canada. She has also had the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as Tom Morello from “Rage Against The Machine” and John Lamb from the "Duke Ellington Orchestra". Along with her busy schedule of touring, Jun’s dedication to community is exemplified by her creation and coordination of ROOTS Seed and Plant Share. “She’s become known for her fiery, heartfelt folk music, performed with punk aggression and more than a hint of jazz. In nearly every respect, it’s tough to pin Jun down. She plays a variety of instruments, from guitar and banjo to Asian instruments like the sitar, tambura and a gnarly-looking Thai instrument called the phin guitar. As a solo singer-songwriter, Jun has a busy schedule of touring and performing around town. With her jazz trio La Lucha, she re-interprets pop songs and standards and her experimental project Noctambulo is a fusion of garage punk and downtempo electronic beats. She cites influences as far-ranging as Bjork, Gretchen Wilson, Rage Against the Machine and Tupac.” (Tampa Bay Times) “Besides being a great singer-songwriter, she’s a scene-maker and scene supporter, too.” (Creative Loafing) “It seems that everyone who hears Jun Bustamante for the first time has the same reaction: “What a voice! I’ve never heard anyone like that.” In a sea of sound-alike singers, Jun stands authentically apart.” (Creative Pinellas) Jun’s recognition by the staff of Creative Loafing led her to become Best Of The Bay’s; Best Singer/Songwriter/Scene Maker and Featured Artist on tbt’s “Sound Check” in Tampa Bay, FL where she is currently located.
