decompose animated gifs into its frames

Maybe some here can help me with this.

I want to take an animated gif and convert it into a static image
(png, etc) where the frames are shown side by side (i.e. film strip)

I am currently following this guide here for animations. The article
used a combination of a free trial of GIF Movie Gear and Print Screen
button to get the film strip static image. Is there another way to do
without using software that will expire?

btw, greg/warren, i got my board to show up. I was calling the wrong
"constructor" function. Now i have the home bases animated using the
one film strip the article provides so all four bases are the same.
Now i need to make three other film strips to have four different
bases. the film strips will also serve as the four player tokens
