Josh Morse, UX Manager at RightScale, will be giving a presentation on his experiences working as a one-man UX team for almost two years at RightScale, including strategies for anyone doing UX work with limited resources.
In the past, we've had a mix of hosted lunches with speakers and buy-your-own lunches with open discussion. Going forward, we are trying something a little different: we will collect money up front to pay for the cost of the lunch. We will have a speaker from the group give a talk, and then offer time for discussion and socializing. This takes the burden off of hosts in providing lunch, and also saves us the time of each member ordering individually.
For this event, lunch will be catered by Silvergreens; each member will be responsible for paying $14 toward the lunch when signing up (includes boxed lunch, drink, and delivery fee). This is our first time using Meetup's money collection, and should provide a good 'beta test' for the process. At the moment, we have only enabled Paypal, but we also plan to enable Amazon Payments soon. If you need to cancel, please do so at least two days before the event, or we may not be able to change our catering order and refund your money.
This event is limited to 15 people, but if the process works smoothly, we may move to a restaurant with a (larger) private room in the future so that we can accommodate more people. Also, let us know if you are interested in presenting at a future lunch event; we want these to be a more casual environment where our members can feel comfortable giving a short talk around interesting projects or UX-related stories they may have.
