• Earth Day Hike / Clean Up

    Cobb Estate-Sam Merrill Trailhead

    Lets count down the days to summer, and hike to Echo Mountain. Along the way you will also learn about the Echo Mountain House – a hotel built in the 1800 by Thaddeus Lowe. This rich historic hike is 6 miles and should take use 5 hours to complete. We will have a snack, lunch, take some pictures (selfies) before heading down to enjoy the rest of the day. Mileage: 6 miles round trip Difficulty : Moderate Elevation gain: 1,500 ft. Length of time: 5 hours including lunch, and breaks. End time should be around 2pm. Please Bring: shoes with good traction, 2 to 3 liters of water, sun protection, snacks, lunch, your camera and your sense of adventure. Street parking is available and obey all parking sign in the area.     SATURDAY FUN IS HERE AGAIN : SPRING 's ON, SO come on out for a great Social Workout that is as easy or intense as you like! We'll meet I n beautiful Santa Monica, walk the beach path to warm-up, and then climb the Famous 189-Step Fourth Street Staircase. Go up the Steps once or several times to increase your workout! The walk is about 5 miles, 200 ft elevation gain. While on The walk, we'll see: PALISADES PARK-WITH its Towering Palm Trees and its breathtaking, panoramic view of the Pacific, atop Santa Monica's Famous Sandstone Cliffs. THE SANTA MONICA PIER-From a distance we'll see the dazzling pier which boasts a spectacular National Historic Landmark- The 1922 Loof Hippodrome Carousel featured in the movie," THE STING". SANTA MONICA STAIRCASE-We'll Climb the Famous 189-Step Staircase in Scenic Santa Monica Canyon for a good workout. WHAT TO BRING-Comfortable Shoes and Water. Rain and Fire Cancels: No Dogs. Meet at Palisades Park, at Ocean Avenue between San Vicente and Adelaide Drive, ON THE LOW WALL near the Street.

    Do you need a break in your workweek? Does the thought of hiking along the beach and adjacent hills brighten your spirits? Then join us for the Playa Del Rey conditioning walk. Afterwards we will stop by a local restaurant for refreshments (MO’s). The walk is 5 miles round trip, with about 200 ft gain and loss. Directions to meeting point: Go West on Culver Blvd, to Nicholson, turn Left (Note: Nicholson turns into Pershing) and continue on Pershing to Waterview (1/2 mi), turn Right to top-of-the-hill, (corner of Rindge and Waterview). Where the NW corner fence of LAX meets the homes overlooking the ocean. You an also get there from Manchester as well. Easy access to the starting point is also possible from Manchester Ave. and from Vista Del Mar. The fun starts at 7:00pm. Rain Cancels. No dogs, please.   • Hike to 4 Breweries

    Yorkshire Square Brewery

    O: 3 miles, 100 ft elevation gain, 4 hours. Slow pace, easy hike. Saturday, April 6, 2019. Meet at 11:30 am at Yorkshire Square Brewery, 1109 Van Ness Ave, Torrance, CA 90501. Co-sponsored by the Palos Verdes South Bay group. We will start hiking from Yorkshire Square Brewery and go to Strand Brewing Co, Smog City Brewery & Taproom, and Monkish Brewery Co. We will hike back to Yorkshire Square Brewery to end the hike. This will be a loop hike on city streets. You will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to joining the hike. If you wish to stay at any of the breweries longer than the group, you may sign out at any time. The Outings Leader will carry the sign in sheet. Participants are required to bring a sack lunch to avoid drinking on an empty stomach. If you like to drink in excess, this hike is not for you. We will spend about 25-30 minutes at each brewery to enjoy a drink. Bartenders and Sierra Club Outings Leaders reserve the right to cut you off at anytime and stop serving you drinks if you become too intoxicated. The Sierra Club, nor its Outings Leaders, are not responsible for any costs associated with transportation (i.e. taxi, Lyft, Uber, etc.) if you cannot complete the hike.   • Poppy Preserve Outing to Enjoy Wildflowers

    The wildflowers are spectacular this spring, so let's go check out the "California Poppy Preserve" near Lancaster. We'll walk about 3 miles (200' vertical gain) and stop frequently to take photos. We'll have a picnic and those who want can check out the remainder of the Poppy Preserve afterwards.   • Sturtevant Falls via Upper Winter Creek

    The recent rains have brought a lot of water to our local mountains and the waterfalls are at their best. Let's go to Sturtevant Falls, one of the iconic waterfalls of the San Gabriel Mountains. We will return via the Upper Winter Creek and Hoeggee's Camp. Distance: 7 mile loop through Sanita Anita Historical Canyon Hike Features: 1,000 feet of elevation gain This is a moderate hike that ascends up a deep cut canyon, through which Winter Creek flows on its way to merge with Santa Anita Creek. The floor of the canyon is covered with a lush ivy like ground cover, a multitude of trees, large rock faces, and a lovely babling creek. Along Winter creek you will see a few cabins built in the 30's and a series of Lincoln Log like check dams. Parking is at a premium at Chantry Flat. Carpool and arrive early. Display your Adventure Pass or National Park Pass. Bring water, snacks and a light lunch. Wear sturdy shoes and carry your 10 essentials.
