• STUDY GROUP: Monthly Meeting

    Pillar

Why did we create the SEMjs Study group? To have a safe space for members of our community to learn from, teach and mentor each other, as all of us grow as developers, while discussing all things JavaScript-related. What do we do at Study Group? • Work with individual JS issues and problems; bring in JS projects that you are struggling with, we can help! • JS questions? Bring 'em! • Networking with other JS developers in our local community • JS topic of the day; there is always a new topic being discussed • Other JS discussions, whatever you are interested in! Chances are, there will be others that are interested too! • Work with exercism.io, which is a code kata site for JS practice (as well as other languages) • Work on a group project • Pair programming • Group code kata • Tooling and frameworks discussions • And, generally, anything that you can think of, we can accommodate you. It's really up to you! The question really is, what do YOU want to learn today? And, finally, you don't HAVE to have an agenda when you come to study group, but do come! You will walk out with new ideas, regardless of how you walked in :)

  • Getting Acquainted with GraphQL - With Eve Porcello

It’s 2019 - time to learn about GraphQL! In this hands-on presentation, Eve Porcello will provide an intro to GraphQL: the history, why you might use it, and how to use the GraphQL query language. Then we’ll work together to build our own schema and a GraphQL server using Apollo Server. Eve Porcello is a software engineer and instructor at Moon Highway. She is a frequent workshop instructor and speaker, creates video content for egghead.io and LinkedIn Learning, and is the co-author of O’Reilly’s Learning GraphQL and Learning React. Thanks to Atomic Object for welcoming us into their new space!

  • Lightning Talks -- 6 year Birthday!

    Pillar

Every year, SEM.js celebrates its birthday by changing things up a bit and hosting 10 rapid-fire, five minute lighting talks instead of one long talk. If there's something you've been playing around with, or are interested in, and want to tell others a little about it, send us an email with your name and title of your talk at [masked] and we will get you on the list! But hurry, spots always fill up fast. We'll post the lineup on this event notice once it's finalized.
