June Social: Getting Up To Date

Fellow SE(M|O)s,

We'll be getting together, have some food and drinks, and discuss anything that comes to mind.

I'll likely be doing a quick presentation to throw some topics on the table. If you have anything you'd like to discuss, let me know and I'll try to include it as a topic of discussion.

See you Tuesday!

Really enjoyed meeting fellow SEO's as well as those testing the waters. Can't wait for the next social, hopefully next month ;)

Hi Rob, It was so nice meeting you in person. Thanks for all the wisdom. I will definitely look into all the resources we talked about. I can't help thinking after meeting you guys that if you put 2 SEO people in one room, there is no possibility for them to see eye to eye on SEO;-). That makes it more fun!

There's quite a few good plugins but the best for setting up a good "base" of SEO is "WordPress SEO" by Joost De Valk (@yoast)

Thanks Rob! I am more interested in on page optimization as I know off page optimization as part of SEO strategy regardless the platform one uses. I am not familiar with WP since I use traditional html coding to do my on page optimization(like tag, title, keywords, etc.). I know there is a SEO plug-in for WP. My guess is that the cookie cutting plug-in probably won't do too much for SEO, so I am not sure how to get your on page SEO optimized using WP platform. Love to hear your experience.

I can certainly speak to that a bit as i use a lot of WP installs. There are some things that make it easier to use WP but most of the things that will get you on the first page are the same things that will get any other site on the first page, make great, interesting, compelling or useful content and tell people about it, build and promote to your social network, etc.

I'd like to have a discussion on WordPress and SEO. There are so many sites using wordpress as a platform, and I'd like to find out what needs to be done to achieve 1st page SEO using Wordpress. Or is it possible?
