  • Gray Whale Cove 3 mile Hike in Montara (near Pacifica)
Join us for moderately-paced, short 3-mile hike/walk with a 650 feet elevation gain. At 9:30 a.m., we will meet at the Gray Whale Cove Trailhead located at the Gray Whale Cove Trailhead parking lot off Highway 1. The parking lot will be on the left-hand side driving south on Highway 1 just past Pacifica in Montara. The trailhead is about 40 minutes from San Francisco At 10 a.m. we will hike along the Gray Whale Cove trail for less than a mile and then turn inland to hike up Old San Pedro Mountain Road, which is an old paved road, for about a mile up the hill. PLEASE NOTE: from the hiking reviews, the Old San Pedro Mountain Road is very popular with mountain bikers who may be going downhill very fast so please take this into consideration to participate. We will need to be mindful of this as we walk up this road. We will pass the top end of the North Peak Access Road to continue on the Old Pedro Mountain Road where the trail will loop back on itself. We will turn left to hike back down a single-track trail to meet the Gray Whale Cove trail to the parking lot. The hike/walk will be mostly exposed but be prepared for cool, fog-laden weather. Hat, sunscreen, layers, 2 liters of water, electrolyte tablets, and snacks are recommended. I can take 3 people and meet them at the Glen Park BART station in San Francisco, but as the hike leader, I will be leaving early so be prepared to meet at 8:45 am. Space is limited. If you want to bring someone, please contact me but you may only bring ONE person. If you don't plan to go, please un-RSVP yourself to make room for others. If you have any questions please text me at (415)[masked]
