Shell Ridge weekday hike, about 5.5 miles

This will be an exploratory hike; I haven't been to Shell Ridge before. There are supposed to be some fossil beds there, but I'm not sure if we'll see them. But we'll be bound to have a nice time . And we'll get out on a weekday.

We'll hike about six miles, with about 1,200 feet of climbing. We'll hike at a moderate pace; no one left behind but probably a bit faster than our usual pace (but still not jock pace). You can see the route here: ridewithgps.com/routes/[masked]

No charge for this hike.

I'll likely be biking from Walnut Creek BART (about three miles). If you'd like to meet me there, we can ride over together. Leave a message in your RSVP if you want to ride, or if you need a ride/can offer a ride from Walnut Creek BART.

It was a superb hike and the weather couldn't have been better. Wildflowers, LOTS of new greenery; grasses, oaks, rich peoples' backyards, pond turtles sunning, spectacular vistas; NSE&W. A comfortable paced walk with lots of time to take in scenery plus a visit to the Borges Ranch. Lee scored big on this hike: Joe-Bob says check it out!

    Martin,
I might not be able to make it. I'm having trouble with my back. If I'm not there when everybody else has arrived don't wait for me. Thanks.

Lana, sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon.

Lin, Lana, I live in Walnut Creek and can swing by the WC BART station en route. Let me know what time to be there. There's a train East-bound that arrives 9:29 and at 9:44.

Lee, I have some local knowledge including a couple of shadier-contour friendly alternates that maintain the overall loop.

Martin, I think Bill and I will be there at 10:30. If he's up for a carpool instead of riding over, we'll join you if you have seats left. I'll look for you either way :-)

Looks like we'll have room. Will be at BART at 9:30 in the pickup lane.

I'd like to bike with you from the W.C. BART but need more details.

Bill, I just checked, and yes, 9:15 is too early for me as well, but the 9:30 is 'bike legal.'

All, I provide rides to/from WC BART for up to 6 people, as I'll bring my blue minivan. Let me know so I don't leave anyone behind.

FYI,there's a small (very) quarry on the hill to the left of the trail entrance. Start around the hill on the fire trail and then head up the deer-path like trails (not directly up from gate). Lots of shell bearing rock there. Quarry faces away from parking lot. There should also be quite a lot displaced from that hill as you go around that left turn, on or quite close to the fire road.

I'd like to take BART from SF to Walnut Creek. Any chance I could get picked up, and if so, what stop and what time.

I teach high school, so I'm only free weekdays during breaks, but will try to do more during the summer :-)
