A great camping adventure lead by Ann:

I have booked a group campsite on Mt. Diablo for us to launch hiking, biking, a potluck dinner, campfire, and the incomparable star gazing with the Mt. Diablo Astronomers. The site will take up to 10 cars, and 30 people. If you can carpool, please include where you will leaving from and approximate time windows.

We will post (soon) the Grand Loop hike (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=25098) @ 10:00 am on Saturday separately for those who can only come during the day.

We will set up camp after the hike, but if you are not on the hike you can setup any time after 2:00. You are welcome to come and go as your schedule allows. Note that the gates close at sunset and the exit after astronomy will be through the North Gate.

Please indicate if you would be interested in a mountain bike ride or a hike on Sunday morning. We will split the cost of the campsite - $100 total - at the event. Please RSVP ASAP so that if we are not full I can invite a few of my students and their families (kids are welcome, not sure about dogs). If you need any camping or cooking equipment, Steve and I can bring extra gear, so please let me know. We will bring a small Weber grill, charcoal, 3 burners, Let's celebrate the Solstice a week early!

From Mount Diablo Astronomical Society site:

Please join us for the June 15th astronomy program. . The program starts at 8:00 (enter the park at least 45 minutes earlier) at the lower summit parking lot. Although there is no fee for this program there is a $10 park entrance fee. This month’s program is – “Stars: Our family scrapbook” Take a look through the telescopes to discover our galaxy’s family of stars. See stars, nebula, galaxies, clusters, the moon and planets through member telescopes. Bring kids, binoculars, warm clothes (temperature can drop), snacks, and water. No need for a flashlight but if you must bring one cover it in red plastic. Escorted exit several times during the evening through Northgate entrance.

Astronomy program is weather dependent including high fire danger. Check our web site www.mdas.net, call the park or email [masked]
