  • Weekly Photo Project: Coffee

    Online Project

Accepting submissions from now until Monday, March 12th. ••• Hi All, It's already mid February and it's time to start our photo challenge. Although the start date listed here is a future event, it really starts right now. I can't put a long event starting now and ending in 3 weeks, since meetup doesn't allow multi-week events, plus as soon as the event starts I won’t be able to edit it, so the start date of the event listed on this site is in fact the end date. I call the events weekly only because that's how we've started. But in fact we've quickly realized that that's too often and they are now lasting for 2 - 3 weeks, but I'll keep the terminology. Every time we'll have a different theme for our "weekly" project. Since a lot of our members love coffee, I'd like to repeat the challenge and this week’s theme is "Coffee" again. Any coffee related photos will work, but try to be creative. If you've participated last time, please upload new photographs that we haven't seen. If you've done it before, you know the drill: submit 1 to 5 images for this week’s theme by clicking the following link: http://slickpic.us/2105844j4TM ••• JPEGs only, please! It’s always great to add titles to your photos. You can do that on the upload screen. If you want to do it after the upload, just add the title in the comments section for the photo. You can review the uploaded photos here: https://meetupphoto.slickpic.com/albums/Weekly-Projects Whether you've uploaded photos or not, please comment on other people's photos for the current and previous weeks. Authors will definitely appreciate that. Please check periodically as new photos are uploaded daily. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are new to the project, please read the instructions below: You can upload photos any time while the project is open, but you’ll get the most feedback when more people check the album, so it's best to upload early. Please check periodically for other people's photos and comment on them. Hopefully, these photographers will reciprocate and comment on yours, so everyone wins. The albums will remain public and visible to everyone all the time. Our image submission service is being provided by SlickPic photo galleries. If you have an account, log in and upload. If you don't have an account you can register for upload for free. You can also upload without registration, but then you won’t get notifications about the comments for your photos, and that's is not good. To upload, click the following link: http://slickpic.us/2105844j4TM ••• JPEGs only, please! It’s always great to add titles to your photos. You can also add a longer description if you'd like. Your name will be displayed under the photo. It will be picked up from your registration during the submission process. If you don't feel comfortable uploading photos online because they might be copied - for security purposes, I turned on the right-click-save protection, i.e. right-clicking the mouse will not pop the Save Image menu. Note: please make sure you own the photos you upload. Please don’t upload any inappropriate images and keep all comments photography related. All the photos from all the challenges could be found in the following album: https://meetupphoto.slickpic.com/albums/Weekly-Projects It's a good idea to bookmark it. • Neomodern: Photowalk and Studio Tour

    Neomodern

Photowalk: Prepare for about a half hour of stunning photography and general merriment, plus ... If you haven't visited Neomodern for one of our previous events there, this is an additional opportunity for you to do so. Many thanks to Michael for opening his shop up to us one more time. In case you haven't heard about this place, Michael’s collection of photographs will blow your mind. If you love looking at some amazing art in a personal setting this is a great opportunity. Studio Tour and Photo Walk: Sunday, October 28, 11 am ===================================================== It’s not often you can see masterpieces of photography this intimately. Rubin runs a unique business in Cow Hollow that combines a photographic printing service with the most unreal gallery of photography. Called “Neomodern” it bills itself as a new photographic salon. (For more information visit http://www.neomodern.com ) We’ll meet there to get a short talk about modernism and tour of the collection on the walls, which currently is showing works by Callahan, Munkasci, Misrach, Saudek, Tice, Guttman, and a few by Cartier-Bresson. He’s open to discussion about the Neomodern process, his collection, or whatever comes up. Prepare for about a half hour of stunning photography and general merriment…before we head out for a photowalk where we’ll explore some modernist principles and see what happens. Neomodern (and Rubin) have also just launched a photo podcast that talks about everything BUT technology. It’s just about the picture part: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/everyday-photography/id1438134655 Rubin himself has an unorthodox background; from making movies with Bernardo Bertolluci, to premastering CDs for the Grateful Dead, to developing the “paint-your-own pottery” studio industry, to years at Netflix. But through it all he’s been a passionate photographer. A few years ago he left his Senior Innovator role at Adobe to focus on fine art photography. Rubin’s is on Instagram at @droidmaker and more cohesive work online at http://www.byrubin.com This is only open to 25 people, so sign up now!

  • "The Art Of Image Making" by Taylor Boone

    Millbrae Library - Chetcuti Room

Join us for the presentation with Taylor Boone on "The Art Of Image Making". The following topics will be covered: * 6 proven ways to discover your voice as a photographer. * Tools and tips on how to harness your charisms to set your subject at easy to create the image you want. * Look at unconventional space to see what can be created in the most unforeseen location. * Trust your instinct and create art form your passion. During live photo shoots, Taylor will explain and demonstrate from start to finish how to connect with subjects through positive body language. By the end of this class, you will have the tools and confidence to photograph your clients to show their authentic personalities, move past your fears and embrace your voice as an artist. About Taylor Boone: “I’m interested in content and not so much the technical side of photography,” I came from the film world and stopped taking pictures when digital first appeared. I felt a large disconnect between the romance of film, dark room to a digital instant view, adjusting the image on your computer. I have an addiction to photos and within a short time, I picked up a digital camera applied my film knowledge, my artistic voice and most importantly to my work, my connection with the subject. This was key in finding my voice. I have owned 6 studios in 3 different states and the greatest lesson I learned in all of this was my voice as an artist working with my subject. This is a hidden gem and when discovered the landscape for your work changes. Irving Penn, Herb Ritts, Ruth Bernard, Lillian Bassman, and Richard Avedon have been the greatest influence in my work. Holding onto your voice, vision and creative heart is key to building a business, and body of work. I am currently touring the US, Cuba, and Paris in 2018 photography women (a few men) and sharing their story. Most of these sessions are not an ideal situation and often I only have 10 to 15 minutes with my subject. I have a skill at hacking tight spaces (hallways, alleys, bathrooms, closets) and transforming them to work for the shoot and also for the subject. My style and my gift at putting someone at easy have allowed for this work to take place at such a pace. All of this takes charisma, and confidence to set the subject at ease in minutes and a conviction of an artist's voice. I love teaching this and most importantly watching someone discovery their artistic voice and standing out of the crowd. From editing, image selection, website, marketing, social media I teach how "Your Voice" matters most! Photographer, Speaker, Author, Teacher, Coach all leads to a beautiful road watching others become a successful artist and making this world more beautiful being authentic to their talent! Attention participants: Presentation starts at 7:15 p.m. Address: Millbrae Library (Chetcuti Room) (map) 450 Poplar Avenue, Millbrae, CA, 94030

  • Weekly Photo Project: Summer

    Online Project

••• Accepting submissions from now until Tuesday, July 24th. ••• This project is getting some steam! Last time we had 117 photographs uploaded, so we are continuing with our weekly projects — I call it a weekly project, although it now lasts two or three weeks. Unfortunately, because of this meetup sites limitations, I can't set up the event to be 2 weeks long so I have to show it as starting on the end date (despite what the event says, it starts NOW and ends on July 17th). That’s not my doing, this site is just inflexible. One more note: I've heard from a few members that they want to participate, but don't know how to upload photos. If you are new to the site, click the upload link (you'll find it below) and follow the instructions to register, which takes 15 seconds, and you are ready to upload photos. It doesn't matter whether you select and upload 5 images at once or you upload 5 images one by one. During upload, you'll see your photo thumbnails and an option to edit photo titles. It's always a good idea to title your images. You can even add a photo description (describing the photo or event). This can only be done during the upload. Now, after uploading, the important part for all is to visit the gallery page periodically and view other members' photos and comments and leave your own comments as well. When you comment, say just a few words about why you like it (or don't like) rather than "Great" or "I like it” — this would be much more beneficial to the photographer. So, let's get to our "weekly" project. Since it's summertime, the theme for this one is Summer. Anything summer-related works. Below is a copy of our standard instructions with the links to upload your photos and to view the gallery. Let's start! ============ Upload Instructions ============ Every time we'll have a different theme for our weekly project. This week’s theme is "Summer". Submit 1 to 5 images for this week’s theme by clicking the following link: http://slickpic.us/1743451NiuU ••• JPEGs only, please! It’s always great to add titles and descriptions to your photos.
