One of the great hikes in San Francisco, this trail starts near the Lombard Gate and leads 8+ miles along the coastal trail to Cliff House, coming across a variety of great views and points of interest along the way.
We will meet at Starbucks at Pier 1 starting at 11:00 am and will walk to the PresidiGo stop at Washington and Drumm at 11:20 am to catch the 11:30 am shuttle. We will arrive at Letterman District stop (Lucasfilm HQ) shortly before noon to say hello to Yoda before picking up coffee and any last-minute items.
NOTE: Second meeting point at the statue outside the Presidio/Letterman Starbucks (below) at noon.
We will walk through the Palace of Fine Arts to Crissy Field and walk along the coast to Fort Point for a brief visit before hiking uphill to the Golden Gate Visitor Center for superior views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Next we'll follow the Coastal Trail along the bluffs and down to Baker Beach.
We'll continue along the Coastal Trail to Sea Cliff and briefly visit China Beach.
From China Beach we'll continue up El Camino del Mar and meet with the newly rehabilitated Coastal Trail.
Then we'll head down to Mile Point and the labyrinth, before climbing back up to the trail and visiting the U.S.S. San Francisco memorial. Then down to the Sutro Baths for a visit.
From there we clamber up the hill to Cliff House for views and the Lands End Lookout before our return journey to Market Street on the 38 Geary bus.
I expect this 8+ mile hike will take 5 hours to complete depending on the group's pace. Our goal will be to reach the Lands End Lookout by the time they close at 5:00 pm. There are several rest stops along the way but few food and water outlets, so please remember to bring water and a snack.
