Liverpool V Manchester United Preview
Date: October 25, 2009
when Manchester United travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool. Manchester United and Liverpool are two of the giants of the English game, each having won many league titles and cups and there is a bitter rivalry between the two clubs. Over the last 30 years, one or other of the teams has been a dominant force in England. Liverpool were the top team in the 70's and 80's with Manchester United taking over that mantle in the 90's and more recently. For the fans of both teams, this is one of the games they most want to win and the atmosphere at the matches is always electric.

The early part of the current Premier League season has seen the form of recent years continued, with Manchester United moving to the top of the table and Liverpool lagging behind. Presently United lead the way in England with 22 points from nine games with Liverpool in eighth place, a full seven points behind their rivals, having played the same number of games. This is obviously worrying for Liverpool and Sundays game is really a must win for them if they want to be seen as serious title challengers, as they c afford to fall ten points behind United.

Recent form would, however, favor Manchester United. They have lost only once in the nine league games they have played this season, when they were defeated 1-0 by Burnley. Liverpool's form on the other hand has been inconsistent and they have lost games which, on paper, they would have been expected to win. Of the nine games they have played this season they have lost four, and this is not the form which has teams challenging for the league. If they are to have a chance of winning the English Premiership this season, they must improve and this improvement really has to begin in Sunday's game against Manchester United.
