SF Text 2/10, Text By the Bay 4/24-25, Scala.js 1/27

Folks -- given a strong data mining/text mining focus, especially around large volumes such as tweets, we're spinning off a text-focused meetup, SF Text: sftext.org.

The first meetup will feature Grant Ingersoll, the CTO of Lucidworks, the company behind the open-source stack of Solr/Lucene, and Adam Pingel and Katrin Tomanek of VigLink -- the company building content-driven commerce technology, connecting users to merchants via deep understanding of text and using relevant phrases to link.  VigLink hosts the first meetup on February 10th.

The themes of SF Text are the same as Text By the Bay conference we've been building since last June, when Andrew McCallum presented FACTORIE at SF Scala:

  • connect academics building open-source with startuppers/businesses deploying it
  • feed back real-world data for algorithmic guidance and improvement
  • connect students to internships, experts to consulting opportunities
  • share best practices about what works in the real world
  • develop common abstractions (for FP-minded folks) about data flows and text mining
  • share best "big" data pipelines and harnesses for NLP OSS

Coincidentally, 2x early bird on TBTB ends tonight.

We've also removed qualifying project for Scala.js hackathon on 1/27 and have a single coding question during signup.  Bring your full-stack-overflow friends!  You'll come home with a startup ready to pitch.

A+
