Do you want to be a better Software Engineer?

Folks -- Scale By the Bay, our flagship yearly conference, is rapidly approaching.  Martin Odersky keynotes, and we're adding new talks on Reasonable Scala, AI infrastructure for self-driving cars, strongly typed Deep Learning, and more -- see the full schedule at and reserve your seat using the code SFSCALA15 for 15% off.

In addition to running our own bespoke all-day workshop with Cliff Click, hosted by Capital One on 11/14, we have affiliated courses surrounding the conference and taught by our beloved speakers Bill Venners and John De Goes.  Nothing like this depth and intensity was ever sequenced before, so if you are serious about functional programming and thoughtful software engineering in general, make sure to take advantage of one or more.

Bill is teaching two courses -- Simply Scala Fundamentals retreat on November 5-7 and Effective Scala on November 13-14.  The retreats are fun and great way to both review Scala seriously and up you game for work.  San Damiano is near hiking trails in the Las Trampas open space preserve in the east bay area and there will be discussions while hiking too!  Bill is the co-author, with Martin Odersky and Lex Spoon, of the original Scala book and experienced teacher for individuals and teams.

John De Goes teaches a four-day long Functional Scala course November 18-21, going through all the advanced types and FP we love but not always fully get.  Finally, John walk you through it, hands-on. This is the way to master FP heights.  John's power of explanation and intelligence will not leave you unmoved.  This is the first time he does this full course in SF and a rare chance to fully engage with him over four days!

See our Training page for all the details and discount codes available to the conference attendees.  And don't forget to register by 10/31, when regular admissions end and late bird pricing goes in effect from 11/1.

See you soon by the bay!
