Here's what the USK website says about this event:

Announcing the 1st Annual West Coast Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl, July 12 - 14, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This event will offer any and all urban sketchers anywhere throughout the world, who for whatever reasons, were not able to attend the Barcelona Symposium, a chance to meet new people, and to enjoy group sketching and socializing in the fabulous San Francisco Bay Area, located on the West Coast of the United States.

No fees, no workshops, the event is designed for meeting with new people and friends, and sketching all day on Saturday, the 40th World Wide Sketchcrawl, in the city where Enrico Casarosa gave birth to the "World Wide Sketchcrawl," San Francisco.

SCHEDULE of EVENTS:

1.  Friday, July 12:

The Golden Bear Inn in Berkeley is recommended as a reasonably priced, central place to stay. Click on the link to contact them directly. Transportation by the SF Bay Area USk'ers will be provided.

"MEET-UP" at 5Pm in the front office area: Dinner at a local Mexican Restaurant, "Picante".  (Transportation again, by members of the USK SF Bay Area members.)

Early arrivers may want to gather at 3 pm to do a bit of sketching in and around the surrounding neighborhood.

GPS this address:  1620 Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA., 94702

2.  Saturday, July 13:

"MEET AND GREET" at  10 am on the large traffic island right in front of the Ferry Building.

(For those staying at the Golden Bear Inn, we will depart no later than 8:15 am to catch the 8:46 am BART to the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street. Arrival time - 9:12 am.)

Sketching options from there:

1.  The Farmers' Market/Ferry Building.

2.  Chinatown (A 15 minute walk up Sacramento Street) See Map.

3.  Walk the Embarcadero north toward Fisherman's Wharf.

Sharing at 4pm: Meet back together at the back side (water side) of the Ferry Building, then find a place for dinner and continue sketching into the evening, or head back to Berkeley. Participants choice.

3. Sunday, July 14:

To make the weekend a full BAY AREA ART EVENT, you are invited to celebrate Oakland and the lovely Lake Merritt area on Sunday.

Meet at the Camron-Stanford House, 1418 Lakeside Drive at 10am to get a list of suggested drawing spots that highlight Lake Merritt's cultural and natural resources.  Groups will sketch together and meet at 2pm at the Camron-Stanford House to share sketches. For more information visit this link.

So many thanks to Laurie Wigham, Jana Bouc, Cathy McAuliffe, Carrie McClish, Sonia Tamez, Susan Ford, and Irene Wang for assisting with the planning, organizing and implementing of this fabulous event. Yeah, it was my idea, and I didn't know if I could pull it off from eastern Washington, and without these folks, I couldn't have. What a great weekend sketching in and around San Francisco. I was elated with the results and with meeting so many fantastic people!! check out the pics on our flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/wcuskskcrawlers/pool/

You are ALL invited to post some, or all of the sketches your created at the event in the group!! Keep it alive...

    Thanks.

This was a fantastic gathering. I could only participate from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, but really enjoyed the way the group activated the space in front of the Ferry Terminal and through the collective eyes and hands captured such diverse images and energy. This was my first such event - am just a watercolor novice so seeing so many people comfortable with that medium, and producing such a wide array of work, was inspiring. I spoke to several people who had come in from near and far (Quebec!!) for this and liked just being able to also meet some other sketchers and learn more about their own evolution. Drawing alone as I do most of the time, this was a real treat.

Plus in all my years living in SF, I had never imagined the area as a place to head out and draw. Thanks to all who helped organize this event, and I hope it leads to more. I will upload my own work in a few days when I have time to.

    Kudos to all!

Jim has set up a flickr group to collect sketches from this weekend in one place. If you'd like to post your sketches here, the first step is to set up your own flickr account. This is free and doesn't take very long, so I'd recommend it. (Flickr is also a great way to find wonderful sketch artists from all over the world and follow their work.)

After setting up your flickr account, go to http://www.flickr.com/groups/wcuskskcrawlers/ and click "Join". If it asks you for a password or secret word, it's "bay area" (I don't know if there's a space in there--try it without a space if this doesn't work.)
When you upload the sketches to your flickr photostream, click on Groups on the left side and click on "West Coast..."

If you've already uploaded the photo, click on You > Organize. Drag the images up to the main part of the screen, and click "Send to group."

Hello artists in San Francisco! I will be part of a Sketch Crawl here in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. We're gathering together at The Jardin - separating and then meeting up at the Saturday Farmers' Organic Market. I will be looking for some amazing sketches. See you in August.

Hi SF Sketchers, I am the organizer for the "1st Annual West Coast Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl" July 12 - 14. To clarify some of the questions here, please check out the original message Laurie posted above. It is straight from our blog (http://wcuskskcrawl.blogspot.com).

This is a no fee event, as we are simply having what appears to be one huge sketchcrawling weekend. Artists can mix and match events, we expect most participants will attend Saturday, the day of the 40th World Wide Sketchcrawl, in SF. (Check us out in the forums on the sketchcrawl.com site) We will kick-off the weekend at the Golden Bear Inn in Berkeley, prihmarily for those folks who are staying there.

Saturday morning (13th) we will meet at the traffic circle directly in front of the Ferry Building in SF at 10am! We plan a full day of marathon sketching that day, beginning at 10am and ending at 4pm behind the Ferry Building for meeting up and sharing our sketches. We do not plan for "everyone" to stay together as it appears close to 100 people might be there - that's how many I count from this site, plus our blog's "comments." Suggested sites in this area are: The Ferry Building itself, the Farmer's Market, China Town, sites along Embarcadero toward Fisherman's Wharf and all sites in between. Sunday: We are all invited to celebrate Oakland and the lovely Lake Merritt area. Meet at the Camron-Stanford House, 1418 Lakeside Drive at 10am to get a list of suggested drawing spots that highlight Lake Merritt's cultural and natural resources. Groups will sketch together and meet at 1pm at the Camron-Stanford House to share sketches.

I can't thank all of you enough for your interest in this event which hatched in my head when I decided I couldn't do the 4th USk Symposium in Barcelona this summer (same dates). I live in the high desert of eastern Washington so it is with a great deal of gratitude to Jana Bouc, Cathy McAuliffe, Sonia Tomez, Carrie McClish, Ney Wang, and Laurie Wigham for their assistance in the planning of the event. See you there!!

    Jim
http://wcuskskcrawl.blogspot.com This event is sanctioned by the Urban Sketchers Global group.

I think you can join this any way you want. This is the first time the Urban Sketchers group has done this here, and I think it's pretty loose.

    June 28, 2013

  • tom j.

Sounds like a great set of events. Can we participate in just one day of this and share at the Ferry Terminal?

    June 28, 2013

  • Firegal

If the sketch tools don't give us away, how about agreeing to wear a specific color T-shirt or colored item to help us identify one another. Group organizers sometimes setup Flags to draw attention to their location.

    June 26, 2013

    • Laurie W.

I think a flag would be great! Also good to plan a couple of later meet up points.

      June 27, 2013

      OK, I'll put a simple one together...dot

      June 27, 2013

I'll be there with my 16 years old son Simon
Our Room is already reserved at the Golden Bear

    June 26, 2013

  • Ann E.

great fun yesterday. I can meet at the Ferry Building on Sat July 12.

    June 23, 2013

  • dorothy y.

    Let us know the logistics.

    June 10, 2013

  • Laurie W.

This is being organized by another group--we're just tagging along. I'm sure we'll get more detailed plans closer to the date. I've heard rumors that they're organizing some sketching event around Lake Merritt for Sunday.
I have done a couple of sketching meetups in the Ferry Building area on Saturdays and it wasn't too bad--especially later in the afternoon.

    June 1, 2013

  • Liz S.

This sounds like so much fun. I will, however, be away in Mexico - sketching of course!

    June 1, 2013

  • Monique L.

Sounds really awesome! I used Bart a lot and this event seems easy to get to.

    May 18, 2013

  • Ed

This sounds fun! I'm looking forward to this event!
