This friendly museum is a great place to learn about the art, history and natural history of California. We'll be able to catch the opening celebrations for the new show, Masterpieces of California Landscape (http://www.museumca.org/exhibit/inspiration-points-masterpieces-california-landscape), "featuring 60 of OMCA’s best landscape paintings, photographs, and works on paper, including works from Ansel Adams, Thomas Hill, David Hockney, William Keith, Arthur Mathews, Richard Misrach, Thomas Moran, and more."
We can also catch the end of Chinese artist Hung Liu's show, Summoning Ghosts (http://www.museumca.org/exhibit/summoning-ghosts-art-hung-liu). From the paintings shown on the museum website it looks like her work would be inspiring to a lot of us.
Let's get together after sketching in the Museum's cafe at 3:00 to share sketches and chat.
(If you want more time to explore the museum, come early. Doors open at 11:00. There will be a jazz band playing in the cafe from noon to 2 PM if you want to lunch before sketching.)
The Lake Merritt BART station is just a block away.
Parking in the museum garage is $1 per hour with validation.
There is bike parking, but I don't know how secure it is.
Bring a folding stool if you've got one.
