Overslept, will not make it to the REB ride today. Would be interested in knowing the total number of riders.

Hello Warren. Have you considered going for 3 wheels instead of 2? Probably a majority of members of this recumbent group primarily ride trikes rather than 2 wheel bents. I know that a significant number of folks have some issues with balance, in addition to general physical comfort as a primary reason for choosing trikes. While I really do admire your desire to overcome current issues you have with riding a 2 wheel bent, and hopefully you will do so with some initial help from others, you may find riding a trike could remove concerns you have of tipping over and possibly breaking a hip or something. Please do come out this Sunday for our monthly ride on the Bay Trail, assuming weather allows, and let's see if we can assist you getting started and getting your balance......also, perhaps, let you try out a trike or two if you would like, and haven't already done so. Hope to see you Sunday.

meeting and will try my utmost to arrive to the meeting place Sunday morning. I will see if WestCAt Dial-a-Ride can transport me to an AC bus connection that early, or better still, a J bus to BART and thence, to Ryder and via AC bus. I won't bring my Bike-E for now because it would be an encumbrance w/o my van driven by my son, who is out of town.

Yes, I have given trikes consideration as my best option as it is absolutely safe for my imbalance problem, but they cannot be transported on a buses' front bumper; WestCAt specifically prohibits them inside. Due to the width of the tread, a trike can't rest on the carrier up front, am I right?

Am assuming this week's ride is still set to start at 9:00 am. I ask because the ride scheduled on the Iron Horse trail the following week indicates a 10:00 start for monthly rides beginning in November. As for the discussion earlier in this thread regarding having a 10:00 start time, personally I some have mixed feelings about this. If we're only talking about doing this for the winter months, maybe the next 3 or 4 months, this could work for me, however wouldn't wish this to be our general default start time throughout the year. Was this discussed at all at the planning meeting recently? Sorry, I was out of state and couldn't make that meeting.

The 10 AM start for the months of November through February applies only to the "BARC Monthly Ride" on the last Saturday each month. Changing the start time of the REB monthly ride (this ride) was discussed at the meeting but no changes to start time could come from the meeting discussion (Scott wasn't there).

    I agree with Janusz.

Yes, Russell, it is both. I test-rode a few two-wheeler 'bents before I settled on my Bike-E. I dismissed my inexperience thinking that it would disappear with more practice. But two knee replacements and therapy, followed by a cataract operation, followed by an attack of sciatica and all the recovery times, served to delay my learning curve. Then last June, my diagnosis of PD was another blow.

I did try'baby steps' of coasting down a mild slope on a quiet street and I did get as far as getting my feet up on the pedals. But I trying to steer, I fell, and was trapped under the weight of the frame. Managed to walk home, but have been spooked ever since. All I need is someone to hold me to balance and 'ride shotgun' for my safety until I gain skill and confidence.

Scott, there's been talk about the 9am start time for the REB rides being too early for some people to attend. What about changing the time to 10am to increase participation? Perhaps we can experiment for a few months and see if more people come out to ride. For me, I like the later start time, especially in the winter when its cold in the morning. Anyone else want to chime in?

I am a newbie to 'bents, although a former upright rider. Bought a Bike-E thru Craiglist but was diagnosed with Parkinson's recently and never did get to master my ride, due to ensuing balance problem. Fell once and am afraid of it happening again. I am an active senior recently turned 80 but anxious to ride again after such a long absence. Would welcome some help frm someone who knows my probl', preferably someone near me in Hercules/Pinole/Rodeo area. I urgently want to join others in group rides.

Warren: Do balance problems ensue from Parkinson's? Or did you fall ensue from lack of experience balancing the two-wheeled recumbent? Not quite sure what the problem is from your post.

Hi Guys and Gals, Although I haven't been riding with you guys and I do missed the different rides. I did manage to ride from my house to Inspiration Point on Saturday.
I been really busy lately back and forth from Sacramento and hoped to be back with the group soon.
