The first Crowdfunding Meetup!

Calling all makers, videographers, photographers, and social media strategists!

We'll have panelists who've launched successful projects, as well as a pitch session where you can talk about your crowdfunding idea or past experience. This will be an opportunity to share your excitement or background with the group.

Every presenter will get 1 minute! If you want to present, please sign up on this google doc

For your presentation:
Makers: Bring a physical piece, or include a link to your work
Videographers: Include a 30sec-1min clip of your work
Photographers: Include a link to a picture or gallery
Social/marketers: Include a link to work or relevant experience

You do not have to use visual aid in your presentation, but if you want to, it must be on the google doc before the event.

The goal for this meetup is to bring together everyone that's involved in creating a successful crowdfunding campaign. Are you a maker looking for a great videographer? Are you a product photographer looking for clients? Are you a marketing strategist that can help a small campaign turn into a viral success? Come to our first meetup on Tuesday, April 30th and meet potential collaborators.

For those who are generally interested in crowdfunding, this is an opportunity to learn about projects that are going on in the Bay Area.

Meetup schedule:
6:30 doors open
7:00 panelist talks
7:30 individual pitches
8:15 drink beer, meet cool people
9:00 party continues next door at the Tempest

If you'd like to come, please RSVP. We've opened up the list to 100 people.

    Excellent, but think we might learn more personal depth from 1 on 1 interviews rather than 3 panelists.

      I reached $170 on a $15,000 goal the first time I tried. I can be your keynote speaker.

      I was initially thinking the perspective of failing a campaign would be useful as well. If anyone knows someone who failed once or more before succeeding that would be perfect, since it would be one perspective that tells the story of the difference between failure and success.

    Thank you Adam and Seth for hosting a great event, and to everyone who came. If anyone wants to talk further, drop me a line - [masked]. And if you're interested in trying out our platform to build a base of supporters before you crowdfund, request an invite at myproject.is and we'll invite you in shortly!

    Happy to offer free, equity-based HDDSLR videography services to anyone who makes an attractive 5-sentence proposal and sends it to www.Facebook.com/AltonSun - as of 2013 I've been involved with raising over 160k+ on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. I'm in the bay, and you'll have to come to San Mateo if we film in the next 48 days while I complete the DraperUniversity.com program.

    So often when we hear of success stories we don't hear about the obstacles experienced along the way, which is to be expected in any entrepreneurial venture. Here was my first meetup where the panelists shared how they overcame the hurdles. Thanks guys! I learned a lot.

    I was surprised by how insightful and interesting the panel discussion was considering I talk about crowdfunding all day!

    Great event, thanks Seth & Adam! Many thanks to the panel as well, very insightful. My team and I just launched a Kickstarter campaign yesterday..trying to get past that 20% threshold and go from "network funding" into crowdfunding/pr. Looking forward to the next event.

    This was a great event! I really appreciate the shared honest insights and troubles the panelists ran into during their campaigns. Also, enjoyed the pitches and location and networking with likeminded people.

    Good rhythm. It seems that people can actually understand how long one minute is.

    Thank you all so much for coming and making this event a great success. A big thanks for the panelists for their sharing their insights and experiences. Also, great job everyone with the 1 minute pitches! I know this was a hard format, but you all did a fantastic job.

    Seth and I will be working hard to make the next event fun, and valuable. We'll also be putting up some resources on this page where people can find help with their campaigns and projects. Also, a big thanks to Autodesk for sponsoring the event, and providing great pizza and beer. We'll be looking for a sponsor for the next event, so if anyone has a lead, please email me, or post to the page. Can't wait to see you all again next month!

    Adam, thank you for the invitation. This was a productive MeetUp and I accomplished 5 things:

    1) I learned more about the nature of a good CrowdFunding - aka network funding - campaign;
    2) I secured meetings with two possible clients for pitch and script coaching;
    3) I met a Campaign Specialist from Indiegogo and set up a informational inquiry with him;
    4) I made contacts with a possible videographer for my own campaign for MUN International; and
    5) I was invited to give feedback to pitch givers at another MeetUp.

    I would say an extremely successful event that surpassed my expectations.

    Anyone looking to get assistance with presentations, pitches, or scripting a crowdfunding campaign feel free to contact me via email

    Hey everyone! We're going to try to fit in the waitlisters as well. If you're up for it, please show up at the door, but understand that it could be a safety issue, and everyone might not get in. Thanks!

    1 · April 30, 2013

  • Daniel W.

    I'm on the waitlist. How strict is the person limit? Should I show up at the door? It's only a few hours from now, so I don't think the "wait and see if people drop off the attendee list" approach is best...

    Would love to explain how Upstart allows people to crowd-fund investments in themselves as people (not their companies).
