Macbeth (Theatre meetup - no reading required!)

  • Sep 7, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Please join us for a special theatre event, enjoying one of the fantasy genre's greatest classics! We'll be attending the National Players' production of Macbeth, directed by Casey Kaleba. The National Players are America's longest running touring company, and has performed in 40 states and around the world. The performance will be held at the Olney Theatre Center on its Historic Stage.

From the National Players:

For an ambitious couple gripped with murderous thoughts, reality proves to be elastic. Witches, floating daggers, moving forests, and blood that refuses to wash away—who can tell what is real and what is imagined?  Shakespeare's twisted tale examines the brutal consequences of unchecked ambition.

You are more than welcome to invite guests to join us for this event. In order to secure our group reservation for this event, we do require payment in advance (you can use your Paypal account when you RSVP. If you'd prefer to pay in person before August 25 with a credit or debit card or cash, you can do so at a meetup and I will manually RSVP for you you to the event). We will not be able to offer refunds, but if you find yourself unable to attend you may transfer your ticket to someone else up until midnight September 5 (2 days prior).

  • We've secured an incredible deal for this show! Tickets will cost $20.91 until space is no longer available.

Please be sure to note that you must arrive on time in order to receive your ticket, and please be sure to comply with theatre etiquette. The actual showtime will be 8:00 PM, but please arrive no later than 7:00pm to allow us to distribute tickets and get settled before the show. The theatre does offer a concessions booth. Directions and parking information are available here. We've also been invited to a post-show reception with the cast, which will include light refreshments.

*This is an open event, and guests and friends are welcome, but if you drop out without transferring your ticket(s) to another or if you no-show, you will not receive a refund for your ticket. The only case in which tickets will be refunded is if the performance is canceled by the theatre. Additionally, since we are making a contractual commitment to the Olney Theatre Center, if you no-show (including arriving too late to pick up your ticket), you will be prohibited from attending any in-home meetups or special events for 3 months.. Please make sure to keep your RSVP updated and accurate, and if you need to drop out of the event, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance of the event (6:30pm on Thursday September 5) in order to avoid being counted as a no-show. Thank you for your cooperation.

Once I realized it was not a purists idea of Shakespeare I settled into it an enjoyed it. But I would have liked to see a bit better direction. The actors did not know when to pause in the dialogue delivery. Lots of passion & good effort on their part though! I loved the theatre.

It was good to see everyone, even though I was too tired to talk to all.

I thought the actors did a great job. A lot of passion went into the production.

The play was really really good. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were acted very well. Thanks to everyone who made it such an amazing night, and to the Olney Theatre and National Players for accommodating our group. Definitely would love to return here.

Hi Vijay. I was wondering I have a friend who at the last minute said she could come. Is there away she can buy Cheryl or Sweth ticket?

      September 7, 2013

    • Vijay

      Sure, bring her along!

Grr. Having car issues; was going to see if anyone could pick me up from Glenmont Metro, but I now also see that Red Line is out of service w/ buses replacing trains for half of my trip, so I think I'm going to have to bail. Grr.

Vijay, so sorry but car problems have me stranded and I won't make it to Macbeth. Wish you could give my ticket away!

Hi everyone, I hope you're excited for this Saturday's theatre meetup! A couple announcements I wanted to make:

    (1) The theatre has extended our deadline, so you can now buy tickets until Thursday morning @ 10:30. If you'd like to add guests, or if any other members would like to join in, the more the merrier!

    (2) There is a post-show reception with the cast that we've been invited to. This is a rare opportunity and should be a lot of fun, so please consider staying after.

    (3) We won't be holding a group dinner (unfortunately there weren't a lot of good restaurant options that could accommodate a group of our size without restrictions), but there are a number of excellent choices near the theatre as well as nearby in Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Bethesda for anyone that wishes to make plans.

    (4) The deadline to transfer your ticket to another attendee if you can no longer attend is Thursday. You can PM me or use the Contact Us link on the left.

      (5) Also, the dress code for the theatre is neat casual.

Any word yet on dinner before the show? It's in less than 5 days, I'm trying to plan my drive and pre-show events. Thanks!

    September 3, 2013

  • Vijay

Just a reminder that this is the last day to buy additional tickets to next Saturday's show. If you'd like to bring extra guests, they're more than welcome, but our cutoff date is September 1st, so buy now!

If I purchase my ticket tonight. Can I add another one if my friend does not have to work that night. Or do I have to purchase both at the same time?

    August 28, 2013

    • Vijay

@Nicole: You can purchase separately. If you purchase yours now, you'll still be able to purchase a ticket for a guest later as long as it's before Saturday August 31 @ 11:45 PM.

      August 28, 2013

  • Vijay

This is the final week to buy tickets for the show! They'll be available for purchase until just before midnight on Saturday.

I need to cancel my RSVP - I'll be in Pennsylvania with the fam during this weekend. How do I transfer my ticket?

    August 19, 2013

    • Vijay

Just let me know who'll be taking it over, and I'll manually add them to the event and remove you. You'll need to arrange their reimbursement of you independently. Have fun in PA!

Thanks for the info Vijay! I'll ask around and get back to you.

Tickets for the show are selling out fast, so if you have any guests/friends you'd like to add, please buy their tickets soon before we lose any unsecured spots!

I'll be in Michigan watching the Irish play :)

  • Cyndi

Good chance I'll be at the Renn Festival but if not, this sounds fun! :)

  • Sweth C.

Question: do we need to have paid by 8/4 to get the $10 price, or just RSVPed by then?

    July 28, 2013

    • Vijay

Paid, and anyway you can't actually RSVP without paying. After Aug 4, the price will go up and tickets will be on a space available basis. If someone pays me in person, I'll manually add them to the event.
