Happy Hour Camping: Pinnacles National Park
Happy Hour Camping is taking on America's newest National Park for MLK Weekend! We’ve reserved a hard-to-get holiday weekend campsite inside Pinnacles National Park, just 2.5 hours from SF. The 3-day weekend will make it easier to explore the park’s 30 miles of trails, which pass through 2 giant caves and across the beautiful mountain-top rock pinnacles the park is named for. This park is perfect for a January trip as it's too hot in the summer. Haven’t joined us on our previous 6 Happy Hour Camping trips? We take care of almost everything for you. Just show up, hike, grab a drink, and camp. Here are a few highlight videos from past events: Lake Tahoe: Lake Sonoma: Bodega Bay: THE PARK Pinnacles is famous for 4 things: * 2 large, amazing caves that anyone can walk-through (standing up). They are fun to explore as they have massive boulders to climb over and light peeking into the darkness due to the uneven ceilings. * A high-peaks trail with fun ladders, steps carved into the rock, unique rock formations, and incredible views. * California condors with their 10-foot wingspan. Pinnacles is the only park that manages a release site for captive bred California condors. There are 76 in the park which you can see from the High Peaks trail * The park is just 5 years old and still flies under the radar with visitors. We'll have very few crowds, especially in the time of year we’ve chosen THE CAMPSITE We reserved the closest group site to the main trailhead. It has running water, and is a short walk to bathrooms, hot showers, and a camp store with snacks and alcohol THE HIKES We will lead you on 3 hikes to show you the park highlights: > Saturday: Short loop hike given afternoon arrival. 2 mile RT passing Moses Gulch spring and into Bear Gulch Cave. Bring a flashlight! > Sunday: 5.3 mile RT loop hike to park summit via very fun High Peaks trail, with possible condor sightings. > Monday: After breakfast, a 3.2 mile RT trail to explore awesome Balconies Cave and the scenic Balconies Cliffs Trail THE MEALS We’re doing the shopping, prepping, cooking, serving, and cleaning for 5 meals: Sat dinner, Sunday B/L/D, and Monday breakfast. Your 2 hosts are expert camp chefs, so expect tasty, filling meals, including veggie options WHAT'S INCLUDED Your hosts have camped a lot in CA, including at Pinnacles. We have lots of gear and SUVs to haul it, so we're providing: * 2 nights of hard-to-get camping reservations * 5 meals & full kitchen setup * Red & white wine for Sat & Sun post-hike Happy Hours. Bring anything else you'd like. * We'll bring the speaker for music & fun campsite games (ladder ball, frisbee, cards). * A big fire both nights (we'll buy the firewood) * S'mores (we'll bring the ingredients. Ever try them with Reese's peanut butter cups?) * Fun campground lights in the trees * 2 experienced, fun-loving hosts to cook meals, clean, help with your gear, give hiking ideas, and make sure you're having a good time. LOGISTICS * Let's carpool! We use this site to organize, so post your available spaces or your need for a ride, here: * Arrive Saturday before 1:30. Pick up lunch and hiking snacks before you arrive. Hike #1 leaves at 2pm. * Bring a tent. Can rent for $25 ( We'll help you set-up & take down :) * Bring sleeping bag & pad. What we're about

This isn’t your normal hiking group. It's got a refreshing twist. Events are typically very close to SF (~1.5hr max), have a beautiful view, and finish with a fun bar (or pop-up bar we create) for celebratory socializing. We’ve collected an impressive list of beautiful spots to unwind after a hike. Nothing beats the reward of a drink and snack after a good workout in the sun, so everyone is encouraged to hang out afterwards, get to know your fellow hikers, and share your favorite trails.

We also want to keep the hikes fun, so we’ll limit the group size, help you organize a carpool, and make it easy to meet people. A lot of us are new to town or just want to expand their circles. Oh, and we'll also take you camping :)

    So, who should join?

    • You’re a nature fan and love escaping the city on the weekend to go hiking. And camping!

    • You love meeting new people - this is important, we're all pretty social

    • You love relaxing with a drink after a good workout on the trail

    • You’re an explorer, and want to learn about new trails, viewpoints, bars, and places to socialize that are off the beaten path

    What you can expect?

    • ~3 hour, moderately strenuous hikes around 5-7 miles. You will gain elevation, stretch hardly-used muscles and sweat a little

    • Hikes that are closer to SF with later starts (we need some weekend time to relax, too)

    • Ending each hike by getting together at a bar or spot in nature to have a drink and meet each other

    • Some non-hiking events to sprinkle in, like fires on the beach

    • Friendly, outgoing people who love to share their favorite hikes

    • Happy-hour-themed camping trips! It's tough to find and book camping spots, but we have a great list and will book for you. And take care of things like meals and even tents. See this video ( of our first trip

Check out our first 5 hikes for photos and example of what's in store for you:

    • Mt. Tam Summit & Mountain Home Sundeck (

    • Muir Beach Wine & Waves (

    • Slacker Hill trailside Happy Hour (

    • Angel Island Mt. Livermore Hike & Waterfront drinks (

    • The best views and dive bar in Marin (

    • And, if you like camping, check out the fun we had on our July happy hour camping trip (

Lastly, a few words from the legal dept. to make sure we all act like adults and have *safe* fun :)
