A fully functional catalog enables devs, test, QA to not just provision a service, but to also capture the full makeup of the application, it's platform, runtime, components, and multiple layers. It allows these end users to customize, bind, and resuse such services. In this talk, we will cover how Service Catalogs make it possible to implement a DevOps culture at scale.   • January meeting: Scaling Continuous Integration at Salesforce for Puppet

    Join us January 13th for the next Puppet User Group meeting! All are welcome. We'll be learning about how Salesforce uses r10k, Jenkins, Vagrant, Rouster, GitHub and other tools to support multiple teams doing parallel Puppet development. Agenda: 6:00-6:30pm Eat pizza and chat with other Puppet users 6:30-7:30pm "Scaling Continuous Integration at Salesforce for Puppet" - Alan Vaghti 7:30-8:00pm Chat with other Puppet users Alan will talk about how Salesforce integrated r10k into their existing github/jenkins infrastructure to allow contributions from anyone in the company. He'll outline how they did things previously, and reflect on experiences with production code updates, external group contributions and experience with r10k, including the continuous integration pipeline from code being committed to deployment in production.   • Puppet Triage-a-thon

    Triage-a-thon 2011 Love Puppet? Hate the backlog of tickets? Want to help us out? The Puppet community has grown really fast and a lot of you have logged tickets and issues. We’ve tried to give those tickets as much love as we could but some slip through the cracks and sometimes we get overwhelmed. We’ve recognised this and want to try to get a handle on the backlog of tickets. But we need your help to do this. What we’re going to do is hold a Triage-a-thon hosted locally in our offices and virtually on IRC (#puppethack) and the Web. We’re going to review all the open tickets in the Puppet project (http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/issues) with a view to: Update and confirm that issues are still relevant Ensure tickets are in the right status and all the right information is present to help us resolve it Close any invalid or no longer relevant tickets We’ll assign blocks of tickets to every participant, have documentation explaining what you need to do and provide people on the ground to help you make decisions and answer questions. We’ll also provide pizza, snacks (and beer!) and a venue locally in our Portland, OR offices. Virtually we’ll provide an IRC channel, IM and rewards (t-shirts, patches, stickers, badges, and books) for people who triage tickets and get involved. Register @ Http://triagepuppet.eventbrite.com.

All Puppet-related topics are encouraged, and all members of the Puppet community are welcome. This meetup we'll have a couple of engineers from Puppet Labs.
