At parts, the movie was superb. I just wish PJ had cut all the extraneous (and often boring) bits. I did like a little of the added material -- Radagast was superb and Bilbo's narration was fine (and Smaug's intro just right) . . . but it seemed like there was a flashback every five minutes. The worst offender was Thorin's back story, which went on at least twice too long. Oh, and what was with the pale orc? I understand PJ wants a villain to stretch all three movies, but could he have picked a more boring and cliched (and badly CGI'd) one? Oh, and what was with people repeatedly falling long, long, long distances and not dying? And shouldn't Thorin's ribcage have been shattered by that blow? And what was with the melodramatic scene with the giants? Love that they had the giants but seriously, not a bruise on them? Melodrama and bad one-liners. Argh. And what was with the random fight scenes? Totally ruined the humor of the first half of the trolls (but second half was great).

Is this the 2D or 3D? I mean, I personally vastly prefer 2D (no headaches, hurrah!), but the closest show time for that is 4:05pm (but you also say exact times may be adjusted). There's a 4:50pm 3D one.

I also prefer 2D. We will see when the times are posted on Thursday.

I am posting this event for those people who can't go to the Saturday Meetup. Sunday is the day that I usually do my "Film Fans" Meetups.
