IEEE Women in Engineering (WiE) is a global network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests in a career in engineering and science.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

For the first time, we are launching the IEEE WiE Singapore Networking Night series. This will be a series of fun and engaging themed evenings to not only network with wo(men) engineers, but to also support and foster the community. This forum is open to everyone committed to building a gender-equal workforce.

At this first WiE Singapore Networking Night, we have Susan K. (Kathy) Land, FIEEE, Past Vice President of IEEE Technical Activities and Programme Manager, US Department of Defence, who will be giving a talk on ‘Using IEEE Software & System Engineering Standards to Support America’s Army Gaming Development’:

Every organization faces its own unique challenges when developing software, none more so than America's Army (www.americasarmy.com). America’s Army (AA) is a computer game produced by the US Army to promote Army recruiting and the seven core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honour, integrity and personal courage. From 2005 to 2007, Susan was the Production Planner responsible for the successful America’s Army Special Forces/Overmatch release, which hosted over 8 million registered players worldwide for the PC version of the game.

During her talk, she will describe some of the classic software engineering challenges and market pressures associated with commercial game production as the AA Project Office moved into the competitive domain of commercial game development and how they were successful with a little help from classic software engineering and IEEE software and system engineering standards.
