Circle Mtn (6875') lies on a ridge: the very northeasternmost ridge in the San Gabriels. We will use a car shuttle to visit a maximum amount of the ridge. It is a desert area but the views should be quite impressive.
From the standard trailhead for Circle, we will ascent 800' over 1 mile to a bench, then we will begin a long (6 mile) exploratory cross-country descent. It looks basically reasonable on the map and in satellite view... but there's no way to be sure until we do it.
Bring: plenty of extra food and water, sun protection, sense of adventure.
Stats: 7 miles, 800' gain, and 3000' descent IF things go as planned - it may be substantially longer if we find the ridge impassible and have to retrace our steps.
We attempted this before (http://www.meetup.com/SGV-Hikers/events/229570334/), but heat and laziness got the better of us (we did Mt Ralston first). So we are re-attempting it. We are doing it the easy way this time - using our cars for most of the gain.
Driving note: it'll take about an hour to drive from the ride-share and set up the car shuttle.
(An alternate meeting place is available for attendees closer to I-15 or Antelope Valley)
