What we're about

Always wanted to join a book club, but aren't sure where to look? Looking to read more diverse fiction? Want to join a club that, like our modern world, has an in-person and digital component?

Then you've come to the right place! The SIR (Sometimes, I Read) Book Club is designed to fit your love of reading fantastic fiction into your lifestyle.

All of our communication is handled in Slack (learn more here: http://slack.com/ ), so it's convenient and accessible whenever you are, online or using the app. Our monthly in-person discussions around the Austin, TX area will give members the opportunity to meet, forge friendships, and discuss the one thing we all love: reading!

Books are better when read together, so join SIR today :).

A new book will be announced on a monthly basis, here, on the blog (sirbookblog.com), and in the Slack channel.

A week before the in-person discussion, I (Liv) will post book discussion questions as a guide.

Can’t make the meeting? No worries—the beauty of adding a virtual component is that you can stay connected whenever you have time. After in-person meetings, anyone who would like to further discuss the book(s) can do so at their leisure. Just be sure you're reading the next book!

Can anyone join?
Yes, and if you are offended by profanity or violent/lewd reading material, this isn’t the book club for you. Though reading will vary from middle grade to adult, I don’t limit my reading options—sometimes things get pretty R-rated. Also, I have a potty mouth, and I’m not inclined to censor it here.

I don’t understand how Slack works. Can you help?
Yes! Send me a note (here or email: me@livhadden.com), and I’ll do my best to help.

Do I have a say in what we read?
Definitely. You’re welcome to submit a book idea anytime you like, and I’ll take a poll based on submissions.

Can we talk about other books besides the monthly pick?
Please do! Feel free to use the Slack channel as an opportunity to meet other people who enjoy reading as much as you. You can chat on it as much or as little as you like. We may even create sub-channels for different genres. In-person meetings are reserved for that month's book.

What if I haven't finished the book? Can I still come to the in-person meeting?
As long as you've read the page equivalent of 75% of the book and are okay with spoilers, feel free to come. If you haven't read that much, we request you sit the meeting out. For SIR to work, each member must be able to contribute. You are more than welcome to join in any online discussions after the meeting.
