Tuesday evening meeting at the West Haven VA Hospital
Join us for a Tuesday evening meeting at the West Haven VA center, off Campbell Avenue. The meeting is held on the 7th floor of building 1. We'll check in, set an agenda, and work on issues around abstaining from addictive behavior. You do not need to give your name. If it's your first meeting feel free to sit and listen or jump right in as you see fit. Please note: This meeting is open to the public. You do not need to be a veteran to attend. No RSVP is required. Most of our regular attendees are not on Meetup, so don't be deterred if you only see one or two people signed up. Don't forget to bring some money if you want to buy a SMART Recovery Handbook or make a donation. You will need to show ID to enter the building, but not to participate in the meeting.

What we're about

Welcome to SMART Recovery®, a modern, science-based addiction recovery support group—where participants learn self-empowering techniques to aid their recovery through mutual-help face-to-face and online meetings and services. No matter what your addiction, SMART Recovery tools and techniques can help you overcome the behavior. SMART Recovery uses tools based on scientifically proven methods for addiction recovery such as Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques.

Our 4-point program offers tools and techniques for:

1 ~ Building and Maintaining Motivation

2 ~ Coping with Urges

3 ~ Managing Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors

4 ~ Living a Balanced Life

SMART Recovery advocates choice, so that those seeking recovery can choose what works best for them from a variety of options. The SMART Recovery goal is for you to achieve a healthy, positive and balanced lifestyle and to “graduate” when you feel your addictive behavior is behind you, not to remain a life-long participant in the program. Upon graduation, many SMART participants volunteer as meeting facilitators or in another capacity to help “pay forward” the gains they achieved.

NOTE: SMART Recovery is not a 12 Step recovery organization. SMART Recovery is a recognized resource for substance abuse and addiction recovery by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Center for Health Care Evaluation, The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), US Department of Health and Human Services, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
