Old Car Shoot at The Simpson Farm, Talmo, Ga.

Come join us for a trip to Simpson’s Farm on Saturday February 18th. Simpson’s Farm features a couple of hundred old cars, trucks, tractors and other vehicles in various states of disrepair, neatly laid out in rows just waiting to be photographed. (Just think Old Car City without the kudzu.) For those with a little wanderlust there is some pretty scenery in the area as well (complete with barns) that’s worth exploring.

Here are the directions from Atlanta. Directions to the Simpson Farm:

Go north on I-85 and I-985 to exit 20, Hwy 60, Candler Road. Turn right.

In 4.6 miles turn left onto Roy Parks Road just past the Candler Methodist Church.

The farm site with the cars is at the top of a hill on the right. Enter where you see a set of service buildings. The address is 3930 Roy Parks Road Gainesville, GA 30507.   Google Maps

There is no bathroom on site. Please see me at the parking area for some "rules and regulations".

I won't be able to make it today. Does anyone know if this is a place I can schedule on my own? Or would anyone else be interested in trying another date?

Does anyone know if it will be muddy? Does the area drain well or what?

    • Frank Z.

I'm sure there will be muddy spots here and there but If I remember right, most of the area is grassy so although wet, it shouldn't be too muddy.

Latest forecast say rain ending around 1pm. Rain chance drops to 15% for shoot time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm not sure I'll be able to go this time around. Is this an area that can be visited at any time, or does Mr. Simpson require a call-ahead. Would love to go shoot with my mom!

Are we allowed to bring a subject/model to shoot at this location?

    January 19

    • Linda F.

I have brought a group there before, Mr. Simpson does not want people sitting on the cars/trucks and opening car doors or any part of the car. Is free and this is all he requests

I can bring a model steve 678 [masked] or help get models

Is that [masked] PM the best time to Shoot?
    Can I go earlier?
    Mario
Hi Jack, I am looking forward to shoot with you!!

    February 10

    • Jeff M.

Mario, that time frame provides the best late afternoon/early evening light. If you want to go earlier, I don't think that would be a problem. Last time we went up several folks got there a little early.

FYI: Simpson's is actually on the left at the bottom of the hill after you turn left on Roy Parks Road.

Are kids allowed to go and shoot? My mature 10 year old is a budding photographer. He shoots with an Olympus OM-D E-M10 mirrorless, usually in manual.

    January 19

    • Jack M.

Kids are welcome. Just be careful around the cars. Lots of rusty raged edges.

  • Joe B.

Never been here. I love photographing old cars and trucks. Look forward to meeting new people.
