What's Happening at SPS

Welcome to the final edition of my not so regular newsletter of what's going here at Southeastern Photographic Society.  I'm coming to the end of my tenure as president and have enjoyed it immensely.  I hope you feel that I continued to move our club forward and we helped you progress your photography.  It's always a challenge to keep our veterans interested and involved while catering to the needs of photographers just starting out (Auto mode).

Here are some notes and comments on various topics:

Membership renewal is open and ready to accept your payment.  If you have questions, see our membership chair, Laura Kresmin ([address removed]).  Remember that we are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Your membership dues help to pay for our meeting space, equipment, honorariums to speakers, and various other areas.  Active membership is around 230.

Communication by SPS leadership:  Currently, our Meetup membership is at 2,334.  SPS' primary source of communication with it's members is through our Meetup site.  We try to do our best to keep everyone informed.  While we ask for everyone's email address during membership registration, we do not send out mass mailings to those addresses.  SPS relies on Meetup to deliver information based on member's who have registered with Meetup and their Meetup profile recommendations.  If you feel like you haven't been hearing from us, make sure that you're registered with Meetup and that your profile is up to date.  We do maintain a Facebook group that currently sits at 789.  This is where we share information that can be of benefit to growing your photography.

Emory Mid-Town Hospital SPS Exhibition

We are almost 4 months into our exhibition at Emory.  Quite a few people have sold images, some just after it's hanging.  A number of exhibitors have been contacted about selling images for various offices.  Needless to say, the exhibit has had an impact.

Anette Watson (the Emory Hospital Art Consultant) has asked if any of our members have any stock images of Atlanta homes or street scenes of homes for consideration for a mortgage client she has.  She is looking for high quality images that can be blown up to 30x40” for her clients. She is willing to view members websites for images that meet her needs.  And of course, she's willing to pay you.   Her contact information is listed below.

December Holiday Party
  • Pop-up Show
    • We are continuing our new tradition of showing some of your work to club.  You're encouraged to bring up 5 - 11x14 print images that will be taped to the Fellowship walls.  No time frame.  No theme.  Bring a note card that includes your name so member's can identify your work and talk to you about it.  Nancy Cutrer will have painters tape and some extra note cards for your use.
  • Food
    • The club will be providing the sandwich meat, cheeses, bread, setups, and drinks.  Everyone attending should plan on bringing a dessert, side dish, or appetizer to share with your fellow members.  You will not have the ability to plug in heated dishes so we encourage you to bring it already warmed.  We will have a number of chafing dishes available for use that will allow hot dishes to stay warm.  Look for the signs on the tables for placement of your dish.
  • Member’s choice image selection
    • As with our usual digital competition, all images need to submitted by 9PM Thursday, December 7.  No exceptions!
    • Images need to be sized correctly as per our normal guidelines.  The 2 year rule still applies.  We want you to share your best work.  The image that you choose can be one that you've presented in the past.  It can also be one that you would like to show in the coming year.  You will not be penalized by showing it during Member's Choice.
