Presentation: Calculating Adequate Test Coverage by Trevor Chandler

Presentation Overview:
We all love automation, we enjoy conversations about Agile vs. Waterfall, we talk about UFT vs. Selenium and much more. As engineers we can tend to lean towards favoring the 'coolest' or the most advanced technologies.
However, the single most important thing in software testing is not in the complexity of our solutions, it's not in the tools.
The most important thing comes before that, and it is calculating adequate test coverage.
Great automation with poor coverage is poor testing. Likewise, you can have 1000s of laborious manual tests, but, if they have poor coverage, you are wasting your time and not guaranteeing quality.
This short presentation will equip you to calculate proper test coverage...
- Even if there are no or little requirements
- Even if you are agile and all the design information is in poorly written user stories
- And allow to organize the results into a usable, robust testing suite
Now, you can show your strategy to peers and bosses with confidence and move forward with assessing for automation knowing that your quality is guaranteed thanks to an acceptable level of coverage that you calculated.

Trevor Chandler is an expert in quality engineering from black box testing to the lowest level of white box testing and system profiling. Working at such places as Microsoft, BEA Systems, Digital Globe, Intrado, Intuit and many more, he has designed, implemented and then trained teams to do more of the complex high value added techniques in our field.
In addition, Trevor is the Founder of 'Tecstar Consulting' a 15 person company performing specialized testing and consulting directly. We provide services from our own internal consultants, most of which have worked together for 10 or more years!
