This is a group for anyone interested in outdoor painting. All skills levels are welcome. En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air" and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Painting en plein air reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. This contrasts with painting according to studio or academic rules, which creates a per-determined look. Artists have long painted outdoors, but in the mid-19th century working in natural light became particularly important to the Barbizon school and Impressionism. The group meets every week on Wednesday at the different locations around SRQ area: Sarasota - Venice - Bradenton, FL. Location ideas are welcome with images of suggested places. It is free and fun! We meet, paint and make new friends. If you are not a painter but would like to watch artists at work, feel free to join us. Looking forward to exploring the outdoors with everybody!
You will need to bring your materials and outdoor easel. Water, sunscreen, umbrella and chair can be very helpful!
