NoSQL databases, Monte Carlo methods, automation of cluster deployments, Django for web development
Both, but in either case, I think it depends on the project that's being hacked or discussed. For hacking I'd almost have to know something about the project in advance so I could study up on it.
Nominally an insurance guy, I have been developing in Python since 2000 and am working on a general-purpose framework for Monte Carlo and other dynamic, stochastic simulations. I made a half-hearted attempt at starting a STL Python group in 2008.
