This group is devoted to canoe tripping, in various locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. We will meet to discuss routes, equipment, logistics, trip planning, canoeing technique, safety, and to celebrate and get to know each other. The group wll be dedicated to preserving the landscapes we visit by practicing Leave No Trace techniques. Members should be moderately fit and comfortable living in the wild. Backpacking experience would be helpful. Most trips envisioned are on Class 1 and 2 water (flat water), such as the BWCA, Quetico, and WCPP.
Potential members should realize that backcountry canoeing entails a certain degree of risk. We will be far from help, relying on ourselves and each other. By far, the biggest in the backcountry is related to wind and water. Judgement is of utmost importance for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. This is why recreational drug use is incompatible with the group's values.
If you enjoy sleeping on the ground, drinking from questionable water sources, think mosquito bites are nature's kisses, and look forward to using the bathroom outside, then this group is the thing for you. If you cringe at any of the above, then please look elsewhere.
