What we're about

Meetings are cancelled until January. There haven't been enough submissions to make meetings worthwhile. The meetings will start up again on January 5th. Hopefully, by then we can meet again in person.

Hunker down and get those manuscripts finished! If you want ongoing writing support (without the free critiques), feel free to join the Facebook group at The Publishing Circle. A lot of free training is conducted there, plus there are a lot of fellow writers with whom you can engage.

*********************************************

Is there a book banging around in your head that needs to get written? Are you already writing a book and you want support? Do you have a finished book and you want help with what to do next? Then this is your group. No one is too much a novice to participate! Everyone is welcome. This is a space for learning, for creating, and for support.

We have a great meeting space with ample free parking surrounding the restaurant. Plan to purchase lunch or a beverage so we can keep our meeting space free. The moderator collects $2 per month from each member to defray the fees charged by Meetup.

Your writing should be submitted prior to the meeting, with a deadline of noon on Wednesday for the following Wednesday's meeting. Each person reviews the submissions and then at the meeting each piece is discussed. This gives reviewers time to mark up the piece and then give thoughtful comments during our sessions. People are not required to critique every piece, just as they are not required to submit a work each week. During our meetings, those critiquing keep their comments to one to two minutes per piece. You will generally have one to two pieces to critique.

For critique guidelines and other details, please email Linda@ThePublishingCircle.com.

Linda Stirling, the owner of The Publishing Circle and its imprints, Quid Mirum Press (publishing suspense, thriller, mystery, fantasy, & science fiction), Red Rover Press (publishing children's books), and Smootch (publishing romance books), is the group moderator.

Online meetings until future notice

Until further notice, all meetings will be held online. The meeting link will remain the same for each meeting: https://zoom.us/j/690339327. You will need to copy and paste this link into your browser in order to join. The number of manuscripts critiqued will be limited to ten and those will be on a first-submitted basis. Deadlines remain the same: submit five double-spaced pages no later than noon on the Wednesday before the upcoming Tuesday's event. If you haven't used Zoom before, please log into Zoom.us and follow their directions. There is no need to upgrade or pay for Zoom. As the group organizer, I have a paid professional Zoom account and can accommodate up to 100 people. Because we aren't meeting at the restaurant, there's no way to collect dues without going through the percentage-heavy payment structure on Meetup. I'll front the Meetup cost for the time being and either payments can be made once we can meet in person again, or if this goes on too long, I will set things up through Meetup. As I've expressed during meetings, I only try to cover my costs for the system. On Zoom, we can see each other, which I believe is so important during this time. If you need more connections, please join my Facebook group, The Publishing Circle. There is a lot of information there that benefits writers, plus it's a lovely community. Writers make a difference in the world through entertaining others, through educating, and through inspiring. Nothing has changed in that regard. Your contributions matter. There's a community here to support you. As always, my door is open if you need someone to bounce ideas off of or someone just to listen.
