What we're about

A group for students of T'ai Chi who want to practice friendly Push Hands with other students. We can start by developing listening energy (ting jin) through single-handed and double-handed stationary Push Hands drills. The goal is to deepen our own T'ai Chi practice.

The SaMo Push Hands Meetup Group always strives to maintain a safe and friendly learning environment to anyone who wants to incorporate tai chi push hands practice into their overall tai chi practice. Generally speaking, safe friendly play is maintained between two players through mutual, informed consent of what is allowable and what is not allowable.

Before any play begins between two players, they should discuss how they would like to play. Once both players have agreed on the rules and constraints, play can begin. Each player is responsible for the boundaries they set for the sake of their own safety and well-being.

Push Hands players with little or no prior experience might find it difficult to know or articulate what rules, boundaries and constraints are appropriate to their level of play. In these cases, we suggest you err on the side of caution until you have a sense what is appropriate for you - you might want to begin by just watching other players interact, and ask questions about their play. We are happy to share, so do ask.

As we play in an open area of a popular park, we try to be considerate of all the unrelated groups with whom we share the park, as they are considerate of us.

Be kind and unwind!
